XP Question

Does anyone know if the XP you earn in offline modes like RTTS or even exhibition play save up or store up while servers are down and then apply to your 1st inning program or is that XP earned just sent to the nether?

From what I've experienced it doesn't seem to be counting XP when the serves aren't connected.

That was my assumption but really hoped I was going to be wrong.
