Kershaw crumbles in the big playoff game (again)

Kershaw gave up 4 runs in 5 innings. If we're looking at anybody else we say this isn't a bad line. Fault the Doyers for using up all their bats last night.
If you want to point fingers, point them at Brusdar for allowing 3 runs in a third of an inning.

Love me some kersh but this braves lineup is filth. Everyone locked in rn
It's the playoffs. Everyone has a stacked lineup.
If he wants to be considered an all time great, he needs to pitch great in the post season.
It might not be fair, but that is the standard baseball has used for over 100 years. So then Keyshawn doesn’t belong in the hall of fame?
Who said that?
My initial post was can you remember another 1st ballot sure fire Hall of Famer that has come up as small in the Playoffs as Kershaw has?
Kershaw is a Hall of Famer, but he is trash when it matters most. He is a great player, but he can never be in the all time great discussion because of prolonged and repeated playoff disasters. As for "Keyshawn" he is not a Hall of Famer, nobody got him the D-a-m-n ball.

If I’m reading this correctly some of the recent all time greats are 9 games under 500. Or at least their teams are. To be honest, I didn’t read the article too closely. But, thought it was good fodder for the discussion.
Speaking as a dodger fan, I just want so badly to get rid of this thing for kershaw. It seems every time he pitches the dodger can’t do anything offensively. He’s definitely had his bad games, but he’s also pitched in a lot of games. Like I said in another thread, I love and hate being a Dodger fan. I’m going to go throw up now. But, tomorrow I’ll be convinced that that is the day the dodgers turn it around.

My Kershaw memories in the playoffs tend to be the bullpen letting runners score such as today. By no means is he lights out, but let's also realize such as in 2019 he got his one out of the bullpen there is no need to have him return after he retires his one batter. I remember Baez coming in and blowing it after or like Brusdar today coughing up runners on base. My next question would be is Mike Trout an all time great because he's 1-10 in postseason and can't even get there or Degrom who has a 7.20 era in one WS start in his only postseason appearance? We can punish Kershaw for all the blow ups but he's also had more chances than someone like Degrom or Trout.

I believe he didn’t have his best stuff today, Roberts sent him to die when he didn’t pull him out to start the 6th.
Pitching on short rest and letting him pitch one more inning are management decisions. I agree he has to step up and do better but he is not the only one to blame.
Edit: Forgot to mention lack of run support. You can’t win a game in the playoffs by only getting 1 hit through 6 innings.

Your friend was reasonable to worry, I know I was. Kershaw was undefeated against us in his career starts (postseason included).
Momentum in baseball is tomorrow's starting pitcher.
Kershaw has the reverse midas touch in the post season
I knew Kershaw would fold..Death
Taxes
and Kershaw coming up small in the playoffs
Are the 3 certainties in lifeFor me, add this: Being bad at RS, or every mode for that matter.

Not first ballot HOF but David Price sucks in the playoffs too
-
They need to release a Postseason Kershaw card, but make it a bronze 67

The only way David Price is getting in the Hall of Fame is if he buys a ticket.

No love or hate for Kershaw either way, but while he has choked in the playoffs that last inning for him was different.
I noticed both those doubles were perfectly placed on the ground into the gap before he was pulled. If either one is a bit further hit towards short or 3rd its an out. Those balls had eyes. The next hit, a single, was placed perfectly up the middle. Sometimes that's what happens in baseball.
Cant take away from the braves though. Teams help make their own luck too. Just watch the plate discipline and focus of guys like Freeman is incredible. I feel he could go up against any of the best pitchers this year and put in a solid at bat where he worked the count and wasn't put away in just a few pitches.

I think a big chunk of the blame goes to Graterol, he didn't shut things down after Kershaw left the mound. Brusdar can throw 101 mph fastballs, but it doesn't mean much when you leave them over the heart of the plate like he did.
Kershaw did look a little tired the inning before, so I think the base hit and throwing error kind of sealed his departure, no fault of his own.
The high wind likely helped those base hits a little.
And can we take a second to talk about Bryse Wilson's performance? Young arm like that in a pitcher's duel against Kershaw was fun to watch.

I agree Dave Roberts is a big part of the problem.
His decision making leaves alot to be desired. I guess Don Mattingly wasn't so bad.
(Thanks for the Manager Dodgers )And Kershaw was not on short rest. He last pitched on 10/7, which is what ? 8 days?
If you want to act like the Man, be paid like the Man, you gotta perform when it matters most.I do not care about his Win-Loss record. I look at the other #'s ERA, production stats like WHIP, SLG, etc when judging a pitcher in the post season.

Last night he allowed inherited runners to score dor the first time this season. He just didn’t have his good stuff working

Coming off back spasms, he threw 5 innings and allowed one run when he clearly wasn’t at his best. Roberts should’ve never let him face Acuña, Freeman and Ozuna for the 3rd time.
Roberts doesn’t seem to realize Kershaw is not a kid anymore and is declining, he is still a good pitcher and as a coach you need to manage his innings better to get the best out of him.

Mike Trout is on his way to being an all time great. He is knocking on the door.
But is he in the class of Mays, Mantle and Dimaggio?? Not Yet.
He needs a few more years and one great playoff run.Your argument is disingenuous at best.
You are using a small sample size and cherry picking of stats to argue your point.
Yeah DeGrom has a 7.20 WS ERA, but you failed to mention that his 3 other starts that post season resulted in 3 starts, 20 IP 4 ER and a 1.80 ERA.
Trout has had one post season (where he failed miserably). You cannot compare the post seasons of those two when discussing Kershaw.Kershaw has pitched 177 innings in the post season. And other than 1 Wild Card Game his ERA by round leaves alot to be desired:
NLDS 4.02 ERA
NLCS 4.84 ERA
WS 5.40 ERA -

Injuries are not an excuse.
He took the hill and was dealing for 5 innings. What happened in the 6th? Did his back seize up?
Ultimately we have seen the same thing from him and Roberts before. Kershaw has a limited shelf life per game now. One or two times through a rotation tops. Roberts has been around long enough and personally witnessed Kershaw meltdowns after he is left in too long.
If a bunch of ham and eggers like us can see that Kershaw is fading quickly how come a baseball lifer like Dave Roberts does not see it? -

Can anyone think of another 1st ballot sure fire Hall of Famer that has consistently come up as small in the playoffs as Kershaw has done throughout his career?
My buddy is a Braves fan and he was nervous before this game.
I told him not to worry Kershaw will blow it.That 6 inning the error by Hernandez was not good, Freeman a MVP very good hitter. Kershaw pitched good enough for the dodger to win that game. He gave up 3 infield hits, Only solid hit before the 6 was Ozuna's HR. The dodger's offense did not show up. Wilson pitched good. The wind did not help the dodgers with some long fly balls that were knocked down by the wind.I know both team dealt with the wind. I do think Roberts pulled Kershaw at the right time. The story is the Dodgers bull pen has not performed in this series. Buehler pitched a really good game in game 1 no run support. Kershaw was good to the 6th no run support. Give to the Braves to come back in game 4 after getting destroyed. Now on to game 5.
