Ruth program roster set up.

Just use your best squad. Get a lead you're comfortable with and then bunt to speed it up. Best advice I can give.
-
To add to that, if you're struggling you should know that the matchup will be their no. 1 vs your no. 1 so it's easy to platoon. Against the blue jays you will always face up against Nate Pearson for example

Bullpen!
One thing I have learned playing the CPU on All-Star for other player missions is you cannot under any circumstances blow a lead late, or you will end up in extra inning hell. Played the Orioles in the Ruth mission, Brooks Robinson pinch hit HR off a hanging changeup in the bottom of the 3rd. They robbed a Killebrew HR in the 7th. Finally won it in the 10th.
Maybe I should stop grinding and play my A-team in RS for a while.

So basically figure out who their best pitcher is and make your best line up for against that pitcher.
So are you saying if the top teams SP your facing is a lefty you start your best RH line up and if its a righty you start your best LH line up?

If you struggle with hitting at all star/HOF or with a certain pitcher (i can't hit Newhouser), yes. I do most of these with cards that I like using or cards that are new or I haven't used before (so now for example I bought Ortiz to finish the 5th inning collection and use him with Topps players, 91 Seager and some random switch hitters). Because of using non-optimal squads i frequently win by a small margin or in extra innings, but I think it's much more fun then using my main squad all the time.

Does anyone know how the CPU starting pitcher is determined? Is it the same pitcher no matter who you start?

Personally, I have chosen to hit normally, and if I get a hit when I already have a lead, I will keep running. Otherwise I keep missing when I bunt. This is just my plan.

You don't have a choice in who you start. There is no SP/lineups screen once you enter the game (as is the case with all moments). You will start your ace and they will start their ace.

Yes you can. Whoever you put in the number 1 position in your lineup will start.

I meant, you can't after entering the moment like in a RS/BR/conquest/play vs cpu game

I went with the line up I'm most comfortable using so I'm not running the best player at every position or the best match up. So far I have only lost 1 game which was to the Blue Jays, I have completed the MLB and Al and NL games with this squad.

Thank you, good information to know

Must be awful for Mets fans to go through these all time great lineups from other teams, and see Tebow in there for the Mets, lol.

Not necessarily true. It will always choose your highest rated SP, doesn’t matter if he is in the #1 spot (except if multiple 99s) which is annoying to have to switch all of them out if you want to try some other SP’s

Wish we could gain TA innings and innings for the daily star rewards when playing these games. Played a 9 inning game against the Blue Jays last night because I could not string together any hits. Thought for sure I cleared 15 innings with A's players and got nothing. I really only want to play the computer and playing multiple innings with no TA points sucks.

That's not exactly right. It's whoever is rated the highest in your rotation. It doesn't seem to matter where you slot them.

I know it kind of sucks. I want to knock these out but then don't want to miss out on the daily missions. It seems kind of wasteful to me to stop doing the Ruth program to get 2 program stars with Pirates innings or whatever it is that day.

Yes, but if you have several 99s then it will choose whomever is in the first slot.

Right, of course.

-Pitch Maddux
-Be patient at the plate. I found in the HOF games, they pitched the same batters similarly each AB. Others may not have had that experience, but I did.
-Another caveat of the above statement... Put one of your really good hitters in the 8 spot, or in front of your pitcher in the HOF games. I found the cpu really likes to attack your 8 hole, especially with 2 outs, so they can lead off with your pitcher for the next inning.
-Have speed on the bench. You don't want your go-ahead run on 1st or 2nd and not have anyone speedy to sub in for them. -
