Greg Maddux is awful

His sinker’s not that good, his off-speed isn’t very effective, he doesn’t have a good strikeout pitch, and worst of all, he has terrible command. Can’t dot a fastball when it matters most and hangs way too many well-released changeups. Guess I’ll be selling. Big disappointment for me.
It’s really sad that glitchy deliveries/upper-nineties fastballs (preferably cutters and sinkers) are the only ways a pitcher can be successful in this game. Maddux was incredible in real life but doesn’t translate well because his motion is easy to pick up and he doesn’t throw hard.

I've heard the opposite 99% of the time about his command... but yeah when I face him I am not nearly as intimidated as I would be against someone who throws harder.. If the pitcher doesn't have a 94+ sinker then they are hard to be successful with/easy to hit off of.. annoying part of the game

Velocity still rules the show. Movement is nice and has become more valuable this year, but if it's just movement without velocity, your pitcher will be BP after a few innings.
-
That is what happens when the game becomes about hitting. Pitching gets worst every year. It started in the show 18

I'd argue pitching is a tiny bit better because in 18 there were little strikeouts, where on HoF there are a good amount this year.
But yeah in general, it's not great.

I also found Maddox to have awful control, which was weird.
If he actually had elite control, he would be effective. -

Going from 17 to 18 was bad, then got worst with 19 and not looking forward to how bad it will be in 21.

only went against him twice and was nothing crazy. But the second user knew how to use his pitches and had me flailing like a drunk octopus. Pitchers who dont throw 97-105 mph really dont scare me

All Star or HOF difficulty

I’m 5-0 with him with a 1.2 ERA but that’s just me & I was great with his 88 overall card also. I honestly think people just have to learn how to pitch with him. Paint the corners, Pitch to contact...It really works with him!

It’s because the PCI is too big and nobody who plays this game can make people guess wrong like he did.

Awful in the wrong hands maybe 🥱

I was 8-1 with a .86 ERA and 114 SO with Maddux 88 so I would assume I would do even better with his 99. Also picked up 98 Orel and 97 May to try and find someone to go with 97 Wood 97 Leiter 98 Hal and 94 Hendrick.

Y'all must be playing under HOF difficulty. I've pitched a 1 run CG (HOF) and a 7 inning 2 run game (Legend) with Maddux in the two games I've used him. His control is amazing (analog), his movement is disgusting, and you'll freeze people consistently if you pitch properly with him instead of trying to spam an 89 mph sinker up in the zone.
10/10 would definitely recommend Maddux to anybody that consistently plays above AS.
-
I agree I tried him for 2 games. He’s nothing special

Cant wait to try him, Orel and May out in RS tonight.

Hated May, & I gave that guy dozens and dozens of innings of a try on HOF/Legend. Good luck.

Oh thats disappointing to hear, but I guess not surprising. I've heard 99 Smoltz is just as bad. Maybe its time to go back to 99 Kluber.
-
What are you guys talking about? Maddux is filthy. He throws as hard as Kluber and has more control. I have prestige Maddux and he touches 96-97 on his fastball. And then you drop the off speed. I think he has such a good mix of speeds. You have to use pitchers like leiter Maddux Orel in reverse. Instead using fastball to setup off speed, you use off speed to setup fastball. At least that’s how I have success with crafty pitchers.

Maddux has been elite for me. I love him. Gonna be my ace rest of year working on prestiging him....
