Hey gents, is it legal for the infielder to block second base with his leg on a steal attempt?

I know catchers have to give a lane at the plate. Does the infielder have the same responsibility or is he allowed to get the leg down in front of the sliding runner’s door/hand?

seen it last year a few times that 2B placed his foot in front of the bag so the Baserunner had to reach around to touch the bag

I don’t think he’s allowed to put his leg down intentionally

A fielder can block the base as long as he has the ball in his possession or is Fielding the ball at the time. He cannot block the base while waiting for the ball otherwise it is obstruction and the base goes to the runner.

Hmm. That makes sense, but I have definitely observed infielders with the leg blocking the bag while awaiting the throw and making the tag.

I guess it is a judgment call eh?

    Thanks for the clarification.
