Online struggles

I seriously struggle hitting online. I'm awesome off line. Kill all star and hall of fame. But I can't seem to catch up with pitches online. Whiff at breaking balls and constantly behind the fast ball. Suggestions? I refuse to use a monitor and separating myself from from my family and friends. Is this game impossible for online play on a smart tv or is it just me?

Nearly impossible for me on a smart TV, even in "game mode". I have a gaming monitor and it makes a big difference for me. I'm still not great, but can scratch out hits and an occasional win.

Yeah maybe a break to clear the head is a smart move. That ghost of tsushima is pretty dope.

I certainly get the "family and friends" thing. I once got so frustrated on the PS3 version that I threw it in the pool. "It" being the PS3. I swear. It was not one of my better days. I read all these posts about people breaking controllers. Big deal! Throw the entire PS3 in a pool, and then we'll talk.
My wife didn't think it was funny. I said "well, maybe if I had a $150 monitor, I wouldn't have had to THROW MY PS3 INTO THE POOL".
P.S. We're still married.

I recently switched to a monitor and let me tell you it makes a huge diffrence especially online hitting. Theres a faster response time so swings are on time. In 3-4 days time i went 7-2 on the BB event and 4-1 in RS.
This is what I was afraid of. Honestly was hoping it was some sort of setting i needed to alter lol. Well atleast I know I'm not horrible lol. Maybe one day I'll come around to the monitor side. Until then, hope you match up with me online lol

I need to get my wife a PS handle to validate this story. If she hears me struggling in an online game, or a showdown, or... whatever, she'll say "you're not going to throw it in the pool, are you?"
Joke is on her. We don't even HAVE a pool any more.
BTW... I read your user name reallllly slowly... and... I finally got it. I'm not that bright

just takes a lot of time and practice, much like real baseball. Start with placing your pci where you struggle, for example high or inside pitches. Once you get that timing down then you'll be better and hitting outside and low pitches. Also use practice mode and pick a tough pitcher and put the difficulty one step higher from what you're playing.
P.s. take the first strike initially. If you're opponent knows you are flailing he'll pitch balls all day long. Pick your zone and wait.... its perfectly fine striking out looking. Also pay attention to the fatigue and confidence meyer of the pitcher. The more balls and pitches it goes down and leads to more mistakes. If you're swinging at everything the opposite happens. Keep at it and you'll figure it out and when you do its very rewarding.

I beat the CPU pretty much every time on All-Star, sometimes by double digit runs. I suck on online All-Star. Can't catch up to anything and it just frustrates me to no end.

Online play is completely different. Settings are different or the connection causes it to be wonky. I won most my games, but some games it feels so different. RNG is annoying but I feel like the better player wins. The RNG gets you when you play vs players with similar skill most of the time.

I'll definetly have to try this thanks. Its gotta just be my timing. Sure a monitor would help, but hopefully I cam figure put a way to adjust to a smart tv.

I am a console gamer, I refuse to play on monitor. To play before my tv is the main reason I have PS4. At least I bought new Samsung tv, which has some better gaming mode, but still not comparable with pc monitors. So playing on tv is still huge disadvantage.
I wish SDS could do something about it, cause The Show is console game
