Golden Era, Silver Era, Modern Era Legend For Each Team
-
I know that my other card want thread went over really well and that everyone loved my choice of players for each team, so let's try again, this time with some restrictions. For teams that predate expansion, list a golden era(1900-1960), Silver Era(1961-1989), and Modern Era(1990-2015 for a gap to leave out the most recently retired). Let's try to exclude players that are in the game, or were in the past couple games

Why is Lefty impossible?

The same reason Albert Belle is impossible. Far too controversial, with far too many foot-in-mouth statements. Especially his quotes on HIV

I was unaware of such things

Angels: Frank Tanana, Dean Chance, Jim Fregosi, Don Baylor, Fred Lynn, Wally Joyner, Brian Downing, Sandy Alomar Sr, Jim Abbott, Doug DeCinces, Carney Lansford, Clyde Wright, Mike Witt.
Belle was a headtrip. Played against him in Carolina League. He left his team early in season to go home. He was Joey Belle before that. Came back as Albert Belle. Part of his "attitude change". The man could hit though. He got a bomb off me.

I’m a huge Golden Era need, so I’m just going to throw some names out there that didn’t make the list:
Rube Waddell and Ed Walsh would be fun guys. Both would throw around 100 and their stamina should be absolutely through the roof.
A guy who didn’t make either your Indians or A’s list (fairly) is Nap Lajoie, considered one of the best second baseman of all time.
One who obviously would never be in the game is Shoeless Joe Jackson, who would probably have near maxed out hitting stats.
Tris Speaker would be a 99 fielding CF with near 99 speed as well. I really like the San Crawford pick but I think Hank Greenberg would be equally cool.
Grover Cleveland Alexander is generally considered one of the best pitchers of all time, and would actually have two fun cards: a prime/signature 99 with the Phillies, and a Postseason diamond with the Cardinals.
I could keep listing names, but I’ll end with the most obvious ones that don’t have a team: negro league players. Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, Buck Leonard, Oscar Charleston, Buck O’Neill, etc. It would be awesome to have those guys in the game.
-
a flashback Ubaldo would be sick. He used to be nasty.
-
Late 90s Kevin Brown would be GOATED in the game..Marlins or Padres
-
The Marlins should be Jeff Conine.
He is still referred to as Mr. Marlin in South Florida. -

I didn’t know Carlton was talking in bad taste. Is it Schilling-esque? He’s a guy I’ve long wondered why he’s not in the game
If you want to read the interview that likely got him blackballed, Deadspin has republished the 1994 interview. It's called "Thin Air: In the Mountains With Steve Carlton, Armed Conspiracist" I won't post a link or actual contents because I'm not willing to risk getting banned. That said, I agree with Tim McCarver on the issue. He said "If he's guilty of anything, it's believing some of the material he reads. Does he become confused with his reading about radical things? Yes. I've told him that. Does that translate into him being anti-Semitic? No."
I will say this story is much deeper than just his flaws as a man, and is worth a read
