I won the ESL qualifiers today!!!

I had to post this on here because I’m so excited about it, I won the qualifiers today!!! I had to beat tapscott and a few other amazing players, but I was able to pull it off. My team wasn’t even very good, but I was able to figure it out with them. There were so many stories from my games, I even skipped my homework today because I had to compete. Maikel Franco and Joe Morgan were my MVPs, I’m making a half of fame team for them all I don’t care.

Sorry for the excitement but I’m just feeling sky high!! I didn’t expect to make it past like the round of 64 so this was incredible

Use button accuracy. You’ll never make a throwing error again.

Please don’t neglect the older legends.

I’ll freely admit that I like older legends (pre-70s guys) more than newer, 90s and 2000s legends. And I also understand why lesser, recent players are added more to the game. They’re more popular, and people grew up watching those guys. It makes sense to include more of them, especially because they’re remembered so fondly by the player base.

At the same time though, I hope that efforts are continued to bring more guys into the game from before the 70s. Guys like Tris Speaker, or Babe Herman, or Satchel Paige. After the last 2 legends were announced, Roberts in particular, I’m getting worried that no old legends will
    be added.

    I hate Shippett Stadium

It sucks playing there. It absolutely sucks. You don’t have to hit the ball well for it to be a home run there because of the high altitude and bandbox dimensions all around. It’s just not fun at all, and it’s not even a visually interesting stadium in any way. And all of this is compounded by the fact that over 50% of games are played there. It’s just so frustrating because there’s nothing you can do about it - you have to rely on your opponent missing the ball instead of you making bad pitches.

At least the other high altitude stadiums are deep with somewhat interesting visuals. I’d much rather play at any of them than Shippett.

RE: Hey SDS, Can Ty Cobb be an 8th inning boss?

@IIJACKINTHBOXII said in Hey SDS, Can Ty Cobb be an 8th inning boss?:

Just use Rickey. He’s cooler and less racist. Boom.

I can’t believe there are people out there who still think Ty Cobb was some horrible monster. The claims stemmed from his biographer Al Stump and were done purposefully to make Cobb look bad. In reality he was one of the few old players who advocated and pushed for integration. Just look it up.

Anyways OP, I would imagine an inning boss would have to be his place since he was also a headliner earlier in the year. He could also be an event reward for whatever the next one is.

    RE: Shoeless Joe Jackson

There’s so many pre ww2 players I’d want to see added, but I’ll name just a few of the more interesting ones:

Grover Cleveland Alexander, one of the best pitchers of all time, would have a 99 sig SP as well as a 85+ reliever card for his work in the 1926 World Series.

Bob Muesel was a forgotten member of the 1920s Yankees who was just as fearsome a hitter as anybody in the league except Ruth. He would likely be a 95-97 overall.

Dazzy Vance didn’t break out until he was 31 - but then proceeded to dominate the National League during the most prolific hitting era ever. He would be a 96-98 SP with outlier.

Smoky Joe Wood had a good pitching career before arm injuries derailed him. He decided to become an outfielder, and he had a decent end to his career. He would have two cards again, and his signature pitcher card would be a pitcher who rakes.

Finally there’s all of the negro league players that have been mentioned in a ton of other threads. Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, Buck Leonard, and every single legend. Those would be the coolest.

    Edward “Whitey” Ford

I can’t believe another legend has passed. These last two months have been really awful for baseball legends. Such an integral part of those 50s Yankees teams, hopefully SDS comes out with his card soon.

RE: It has been Fall for 29 days...

@Onyx_Hokie_2 said in It has been Fall for 29 days...:

That's ridiculous, if true, especially considering that a lot of players will transition to other sports titles like Madden, NHL2k21, and PGA Tour 2k21 once the baseball season ends.

As soon as July hits every single year people say this. People who are going to move to other games are going to do so anyways. “If SDS doesn’t do X by Y then every player is going to go play other games” is one of the most tired tropes I’ve seen on these forums.

@chuck_dizzle29 said in Awards Molina should have the Pop Time quirk:

Pop time is an active quirk for LS, POTM, and TN only. FB cards from years prior and legends do not get active quirks. It's the same with other active quirks like Dead Red, Unfazed, Breaking Ball hitter, etc.

They have selectively added it to some legends.

    BIG TRAIN!!!!!

Edit: I know a lot of people don’t care for the deadball era guys, but I’m stoked. Having a rotation of Johnson, grove, young, and Mathewson is so cool. Bummed that Cobb and Hornsby are out this year, because they are always important pieces in my old farts team. Kaline and teddy bj too, but they are a little more recent I suppose.

You and me both brother. I use Feller as the last one too, TA4 is the best content drop for old timers.

RE: Your January homework assignment - define an "average" DD player.

I would say an average player sits around 400-600 rating. People on this forum and on other forms of media represent people who are really invested into the game. I would say you’re a relatively above average player.

The average player is a guy who hops on for a ranked game once a day or so, maybe plays a few moments, and generally doesn’t play the game for longer bursts than 2 weeks - 1 month at a time. At least, that’s what I think.

RE: Relief pitcher in closing role

No difference in their stats. It could just be that Mo is coming into a higher leverage situation in the 8th as a setup man or something like that, but there are no stat changes for relief/closing pitchers whether they’re starting, relieving, or closing.

RE: Is PS Walker Buehler the best SP they have ever put out?

He’s a very underrated card. Coming straight over the top with the cutter/4 seam/ 2 seam combo is really dirty, and I had trouble with his live series at the start of the year.

But I feel like he’s much easier to hit now. Maybe it’s because lineups are juiced, or because I know what his patterns are, but I’ve crushed him the last few times I played the game.

RE: How does this make sense

Because he counts as a monthly awards player. Personally I wish that the collection was either optional or that it added up to 100, but it is what it is.
