It would be a TON of downtime of doing nothing...
Back in 2005, there was a game called World Baseball Online that was exactly this. I actually enjoyed it, even though you'd sit around forever

That’s an idea, but say you are playing LF, that would be 45 minutes, at least, for 4 at bats and a couple of fly [censored]. Baseball is not set up we’ll go this, unfortunately.

Their servers can't even handle a mode that is head to head and you want to play 9 vs 9.

I really like this idea but the downtime would be a drag.

If they made drop in games with 3 or 6 innings and quick counts and ranked games normal baseball I think it would be a ton of fun. They could also take the madden route and have 3 players per team, outfield infield, catcher/Pitcher and you could then bat every inning with ghost runners like showdown If needed. It’s entirely possible to make it and make it fun. It’s the only sports game without and I think it’s the most fun mode in the other games.

3v3 would imo be more enjoyable.
