Gentlemen, I don't believe we will have an MLB season...
-
We all know the owners don't want to play many games and don't want to pay for more than 48, players want to play games and get paid for every game. MLBPA recently in a statemen said "Whatever, tell us when and where and we will show up".
With everything going on with the MLBPA and the Owners, with everything that happened in our country recently with the riots and protests...
People seemed to have forgotten why we were in a pandemic. New reports are allegedly stating players and staff have contracted the Rona, and with everything going on within the MLB I say Manfred is going to turn the lights off all together for 2020 citing health concerns over the continued spread of Covid.
Its June 15th, we still need at least 2-3 weeks of Summer Training before the season even begins for these players to get even remotely ready. If we have a season it won't start until the 2nd or 3rd week in July, which of course fits the Owners timeframe.
People will say it's a second wave of Covid, I'm sure Manfred will say it that way too despite the fact we never even got passed the first wave.
I honestly don't expect to see one in 2021 either since there will probably be even more labor disputes. How do the rest of you feel about this?
-
I don’t think they are playing either. Positive for Detroit fans is we have more money to spend if this happens than any other team in the league and we are finally at the point of doing it. Mookie Betts would look great in a home old English D.
-
I think they’ll get some baseball on. I’d like to see 80 games but realistically, I’m expecting 48-56 and an expanded postseason that ends mid November.
-
They will play, this is just Manfred stalling so they can restart the season at the amount of games they want. He's got two weeks to burn before spring training 2.0 needs to start to play about 50-55 games.
-
I am seriously considering boycotting baseball because of this, which won't affect this year(paid for months ago and I don't buy stubs) but I was looking forward to next year on the ps5.and seeing live games again.

I think you’re right. There are thousands of new cases daily in the US. I don’t think there will be a season any time soon.

Yeah, that's what he's doing because they don't want to get a grievance filed from the players. Delaying it has nothing to due with covid, if the players had agreed to getting another pay cut they'd be starting up spring training already. But since they didn't they have to kill some time so they can act like they are trying to play as many games as possible when they're really just getting it to where they wanted it to be anyway
-
I love MLB the show. But the MLB can stuff it for all I care. This should have been worked out months ago. I'm over it. Plenty of blame to go around for everyone. I agree I dont see a season happening, and at this late in the game, I'm good with that.
-
I understand the fan outrage. I was upset at the beginning. But with everything going on I really don’t care anymore. At the beginning of the season when Covid hit I already came to the reality the season might be cancelled. You can argue that you have the greedy players in a dispute with the more greedy owners. I don’t see it that way. I work for a company that during this pandemic has paid its employees up to 80% of their average wages with out a majority of the staff having to work. The company I work for employees about 25,000 people. Only about 3,000 of us have had the opportunity to work at all. With phase 2 kicked off here most of us are back to work. But the company I worked for lost an extreme amount of money the last few months to take care of its employees. I feel it’s on the owners to pay the players for the future prosperity of the league.

I don't want to punish SDS , but mlb gets(probably huge) chunk of money from the license.

That's something they've already purchased though (SDS/Sony). I doubt they make any revenue from the game itself.

Yeah Manfred knew what the owners wanted and let them drag their feet through the mud one day at a time. The offers they were sending out were a complete joke and just regurgitated every single time.

Meh, at least we have the Korean League, its nice to wake up to baseball before work haha

I will most likely get the 21 game, cause that's not fair to SDS,
I'm just so frickin mad at the owners, while both sides make plenty of money,it is really despicable to make them take a pay cut for the same work. -

The owners are sucking the life out of baseball and it's going to hurt the league. Baseball had the chance to be the sole saviour of sports, it could have been on its 2nd week of spring training... But owners don't want that. And it's not like Baseball isn't profitable, it's not like these teams aren't making money, all they had to do was defer the remaining % of money throughout the next 5 years and things would have been fine. 2021 would strike and they could have recouped any losses by 2022-2023.
But no.
-
I think these owners and players need to be careful. They make the money they make because there is a market for the entertainment they provide. If the market shrinks, they won’t continue to profit so substantially. It’s seems unlikely, but it’s possible that the fan base will get fed up and simply seek their entertainment elsewhere. There was a huge dip after the 94 season. This could happen again. In a few years, we might be complaining about how a player with 99 catch keeps dropping frisbees in the endzone. And baseball will be a distant memory.
-
And that's my take away from all this. 2 years without baseball is going to split the die-hard fanbase. One half will say "[censored] this I'm out" and the other half will be waiting for it. These are the guys who go to games, buy the merch, buy the subscription services, alienated.
But there will be absolutely 0 new fans and that's what baseball has struggled with the past few... decades.
