Pitch speeds and gameplay consistency
-
I think most fans of baseball are aware that hitting is about timing and pitching is about upsetting timing, at least in general terms.
We have all talked at length about perceived flaws with this game, but for me, the fact that every mode and difficulty within that mode plays differently is perhaps the biggest problem.
Leaving aside pitching problems and good/ok and fielding, constant change of pitch speed from conquest to moments to RS to events etc basically ensures that we as players are constantly having to adjust.
It’s true, baseball IS a game of making adjustments, but IMO, adjusting between the many pitchers and pitches we face is enough.
Obviously there needs to be different difficulties, but consistent pitch speeds would really be great. 95mph in short season A is the same as 95 in the MLB.

Alright, so what pitch speed do they use? Can't use hall of fame, because T.V. players would complain. Can't use all-star, because WS players would complain.
That's the problem, there is no one pitch speed that wouldn't make one side angry. There really is no good solution for one pitch speed.

You’re right, that would be the primary challenge.
I just think that if pitch speeds (and the gameplay in general) were more consistent, it would be possible to get better at the game.
Some ideas I had were about limiting exposure to super hard throwers early on, players unlock them and face them as they progress. For example, AS difficulty you only can use up to 92-95 mph guys.
I’m not saying that is the best approach but I think there needs to be another way to separate the average players from the advanced players other than pci size and pitch speed.

But some people never get out of all-star difficulty, so they can never use the faster pitchers? I agree that it would make the game more consistent, but I just don't think there is a good way to implement it that wouldn't cause a ruckus from a certain group.

You may be right. That said, some people are stuck in all star every season anyway. I don’t think I’ve climbed higher than PR this year, although I only usually play a half dozen ranked games a month.
Something needs to be done to make the game play more consistently. It may be that I personally am tired of the game right now, but I definitely feel that that the game is designed to prevent you from getting better more than to encourage.

The game needs to be more competitive across the board. They make it too easy to hit at the low levels
-
I agree, to an extent. I don't think uniform pitch speeds across the board is a good idea, but I do think a particular difficulty should be the same across all game modes. A difficulty in conquest should play exactly the same as that same difficulty in leagues, events, showdown, moments, and (most importantly) RS.
Currently, they all play differently, which is super dumb.

I disagree. New players need a mode in the game that they can be successful at or they will not keep playing.
That said, IMO, the way to accomplish that is not by making pitch speed slower and pci size bigger.

I wish the pitch speeds would be consistent at the same difficulty. The pitch speeds during the events on all star are much slower than the pitch speeds on all star in ranked. I wish the pitch speeds in ranked were the speeds in events. Then they can increase from there as you move up.

I agree with that...this game is bastardized to the middle though

I don't have a problem with either AS or HOF pitching but, a 95 mph FB shouldn't look like it's going 5 different speeds from the same pitcher when they aren't doing anything abnormal such as pitching from the strech. That happens all too often in the game which isn't very realistic either. If the speed of the pitch changes due to increased velocity then fine but, that's rarely the case.
