The Sinker
-
I'm a hitter and pitcher in real life on a year round competitive team. I have seen a few sinkers here and there. I also see it on TV. I can tell you that it is a good pitch. It is good for enforcing grounders and contact. In this game it is too good though. In real life it breaks a little downwards. In this game it breaks like a changeup with way more velocity than a changeup. I think it is over powered. Do you guys think they should nerf it or keep giving it to every pitcher?
-
I would say the break isn’t actually enough in this game. Look at good MLB sinkers IRL, they will start and the knee and end at the ankles, e.i. Greg Maddox.
However, I do feel they appear way to fast in this game! A 95 sinker seems way faster then a 99 fastball. Also most in this game should just be a 2 seamer, I would only give a handful an actual sinker with the big break.

The problem is adding in the change and cutter that are other variations of this pitch

I don’t think there’s any doubt there needs to be an adjustment. The game should be made so that the sinker acts more like the 2 seam does, seeing as they are essentially the same pitch in real life. The way the game is now the sinker is way overpowered.
They are definitely different pitches, problem is that SDS doesn’t seem to understand that and gave pitchers with a 2 seamer a sinker.

I throw a 2 seamer IRL. It and my changeup are my best pitches. I can say that the 2 seamer and sinker are more similar than a 2 seamer and a 4 seamer. But in this game the 4 and 2 seamers are almost identical while the sinker is in a land of its own

Why are you telling me this?I bet you play the game 5x more than I play. I'm on here for a short period of time mostly. I post to get my questions answered, help others, and giving feedback on the game. I go on because I can't play the game sometimes and don't have many people to talk to the game about

2S- index and middle finger held on top of the seams on the narrow part, thrown with a normal throwing motion. pitch will "run" and have some drop.
4S- index and middle finger across the seams at the narrow part, normal throwing motion. Straight fastball.
Sinker thrown with one of two grips
2S grip with pronating the wrist during throwing, get some run but a lot more depth than a 2S, pitch trail on in pitcher offset with Hershiser for a good example.pitch is a couple mph slower than a 4S.
other grip is a 4S grip with wrist pronation during throwing, hardly any run great depth and mph similar to 4S, I personally call this a hard sinker -

He prefers “breadstick” or “baked ziti.”
And the real problem with the sinker is it looks like a curveball out of the hand.

Report me then, they won't care. Most people here could report you for trolling. Haven't you heard of the word stop. If you haven't it means to cause (an action, process, or event) to come to an end.

I feel like there must be something about the hitting engine that has lead to:
-
adding randomized outcomes on good swings at patch 1.04
-
perfect/good release pitches drifting to the middle of the plate
-
every pitcher getting sinkers due to high sinker meta and general OP ness of the pitch
-
crazy amount of movement on offspeed pitches and relative ineffectiveness of four seam fastballs
-
add one of your own.
In other words, I think the sinker situation is rooted in the shortcomings of the current hitting.
