Can anyone from SDS explain this?

That is a horrible thing to happen in a game. I thought you were playing with the replay until I noticed the hiccup in the step that caused that whole mess. I would love to hear SDS make a comment on this. I'm sure they will say it's just something that happens or they will "look into it" but that's a crock of [censored].
-
You didn’t zoom in on the tag, just couldn’t tell from that angle ...
-
That looks bad. But, it also appears that the catcher remains frozen while Rickey goes backwards. It appears that the catcher doesn’t start to move until Rickey catches up to where he was before he moonwalked.
-
I mean, look at the jump he got. I intentionally left the yellow bar at the bottom of two replays so you could see I wasn’t rewinding the clip, lol. The actual tag is whatever, I don’t doubt for one second he got the tag on me at 3B. The fact I ran backwards for three steps and then forward again is clearly what allowed the tag to be made.
If it were just a visual glitch caused by desync on my end, the end result wouldn’t be affected. The play may look strange, but the safe call should have been determined already despite the lag. How many more examples like this go undetected? I’ve also seen the ball pass straight through the bat as if it weren’t solid before. These are some strange things and as in this instance, seem to have direct bearing on results and outcomes as opposed to being a visual glitch.

So I’m leading by a run in the top of the 9th and I give up a good/okay home run to tie it. Started to feel like this was a game I wasn’t “supposed” to win, but having got a man on second base with only one out, I throw the fastest man in baseball in to pinch run. Stealing third with only one out will put me in a great position to walk off the game in a variety of ways. Rickey gets a brilliant jump, almost making it halfway to third before the catcher even has the ball in his glove. The bag is swiped.
But he’s...... out??? How?? Was my first thought, so I decided to consult the action replay. See the clip for yourself here:
https://twitter.com/sweedy1407/status/1269397056982040578?s=21
Pretty blatant game scripting and result rigging seemed to be the answer. I eventually lost the game in the 10th (another good/okay homer, JE 11 per analysis, but whatever) but this was the key moment that nullified my chance to win the game in the ninth. This is how they do it, apparently. Blatantly right under your nose without consequence. If the game decides you’re not winning, you’re not winning.
Game scripted or scripted bad umpiring?
-
The dice roll came up low for a successful steal regardless of the jump.
-
Why is everyone missing the skip on the player running to 3rd?

Doesn’t it look like the catcher is frozen until Rickey catches up, though? The pitcher threw a fastball and, I’m guessing, the other player had a perfect throw.
I agree with the frustration that you took the step and it’s rickey. This, with the poor input homerun, would make anyone mad. I would be mad too. But, I don’t see a smoking gun here.
I personally don’t believe there is comeback logic in this game, but I appreciate others do. And I read and try to understand. And, I don’t think this can be used as an example of it.
Tell me what I’m not seeing here. I am not trying to troll.

It threw me off until you said it, and your right. He was where he should have been by the time the catcher threw it. Still shitty gameplay though.

Aren’t these things that happen all online games, though? Tbh, this is the only game I play online. But, I just assume that this is what goes with H2H. Sometimes there will be weird visuals that coding can’t control. If that’s not the case with NBA or madden or NHL, then yes, sds needs to fix it. I just assume this is part of the deal.

I only play COD and The Show. I don't have problems with COD. I use to play a lot of Madden & NBA until a couple of years ago. NBA had the best gameplay, for the most part. I've never really experienced bad gameplay until The Show from last year.

Interesting. I see FPS as a totally different entity than sports games. They have to deal with multiple users and internets, but the result are pretty straight forward. You either hit x when the person was in your crosshairs or you didn’t. It is 0 or 1. In baseball, the outcome is affected by when you hit x on the ball. Are you a microsecond early will have a different outcome than a microsecond late.
But, in terms of ghost steps as was shown here, if that stolid doesn’t happen in other games then, yeah, this is pretty bad. I just don’t have anything to compare it to.

This is true, the Show has been doing this for years now, even if you get an early jump the runner won’t react, it’s a random dice roll...

I've seen this happen to Shelfy quite a few times

Everytime your player runs to first there is a glitch step that SDS put in. I feel like they put it in to get good timing to step on the bag but after I watched it several times it seems unnecessary.

Same, but add Diablo III to that.
While they are all online, there are three distinct environments from P2P (peer to peer) inputs, reactions and results.
D3 for is player vs environment. Lag and Visual glitches are only connection related when in a party. 4 twister mages can choke anybody on a PS4, regardless of internet speed.
COD only relies on location placement and your input. Sometimes you'll see red dots on the screen show up before the opponent. Particularly in Shipment and War play.
MLB requires a action and reaction that is input related as well as location based when swinging. Base running is a dice roll taking into account, jump, pitch speed, BR AG, Steal rating, catcher arm, accuracy etc. The animations displayed are a result of the outcome of the variables. This was going to be an out no matter what. Sometimes the available animation doesn't exist and it results in what you saw.
I played online ranked and had a guy steal a base with Kluber, no secondary lead, perfect throw to second etc. Ball beat him there. It happens. I accept it because RNG is required for online baseball play.
-
It's just a visual bug due to the latency buffer. Same reason you sometimes see the first basemen in the coaches box on a throw to first. I've also had a sac bunt down the line showing me clearly out then when it shows my next batter the runner is on second and the pitcher is standing on first. On quick plays the buffer gets completely jacked up occasionally.
-
Base running is so broken. I don’t even try to take the extra base or steal anymore, running seem to always change direction in quick sand. Makes it more boring but apparently SDS doesn’t want us to. They sure would not appreciate the 2015 Royals...

You have put in the request to move left. Your red dot will show you moving left. Sniper sits on the red dot and waits for your face.
When I say action and reaction, it's for timing and result. You pitch, I swing. Outcome gets resolved with a dice roll
In COD, your dice roll doesn't exist. Either you hit the target or you didn't aim well enough.
