I’m 43 years old and have played sports titles specifically baseball since the mid 80’s. It crazy how far these games have come. Anyways grown up life got the best of me and have been out of gaming for 8 + years. The Show 12 was the last until this pandemic came about. No sports, no fantasy sports etc so after watching a few Twitch streams of Blake Snell playing The Show 20 I went out and purchased a PS4 along the The Show 20. I love the game! I can see how people can get hooked on Diamond Dynasty cards by making your lineup better. I’m obviously in the infancy of improving my squad and mainly a offline player. I’ve refrained from buying packs. As of now my team is only a 77 overall rating with I think bronze 79 Machado. I’ve been lurking on these forums for a while just reading all I can and watching YouTube tutorials. There’s so much content to take in with The Show 20. The April Ryan Zimmerman moment is giving me a real hassle. Struggling to hit the one HR. Sorry for the long post but thanks for all the posts on here to help people like me get better! Any suggestions on my best path or how to navigate it all? Thanks in advance.

@snojockey welcome aboard! I truly do miss IRL baseball. 20’ scratches the itch a lil bit but still not the same. Good luck in the game. If your playing competitively just keep in mind most competition has played this game consecutive years

If you're trying to build your team then the Team Affinity is going to be a great option for you. Since you are new the Showdowns might be a little bit of a challenge at first but you should get the hang of it. That is the fastest way to make stubs and XP ( which will unlock better cards as well) I would also suggest doing the challenge of the weeks. Does't give you anything as far as rewards, maybe some XP. But it will help you with your hitting.

If your going to stick with offline play for now; play MTO. it's time consuming but it can get you some decent players (1 Gold and 2 Diamonds for now).

It's like a Franchise-Lite mode. I'd start off on Veteran; unless you want to try AS.

But just know that you have to have a certain record by the AS break (to get points towards that team's Team Affinity), then make the playoffs (to get points), then win WS (to get max points)

Just don't quit out any games and you'll be fine.

May take you some time (each run per team is about 8hrs of gameplay), but if you play all 30 teams, at least once; you can get some decent cards, stubs, and XP

The conquest maps are a great place to start, if you have 1.5 times the number of fans attacking that they have defending you can play the games on veteran.

I'm 42 and I started on this game a couple years ago. In fact like you it was this game that made me buy a PS4. It took me a whole calendar year to really understand how to manage and maneuver through DD. I have disabled children so I cannot play online as I never know when I will be called away from a game. So to be fair to myself and other players, I play all the offline mode for my own challenge and entertainment. The community market is also a fun mode to play LOL. Buying and selling everything from players to equipment can be exciting and challenging. I was able to consistently make enough profit last year to consistently buy packs in order to continue flipping players in order to get all the players I wanted for my team. Last year I bought 10 pack bundles as much as possible and on average pulled 5 diamonds per every ten 10 pack bundles I would get. Unfortunately the market is not set up to be as user-friendly this year. But I am still finding ways to increase my stub totals in order to get the Players I Want. The bottom line is everybody will have an opinion on what modes to play and how to go about improving your team and the best ways to work the Community Market. My advice is to just play the game the way you feel is the most fun. Seems like there are a lot of guys like us out there finding a way to have a great time playing a baseball video game. Finally everybody knows that the game is not perfect but I still see thousands of people playing this game all kinds of different ways. That must mean within the structure of the game there is still a lot of fun to be had. Best of luck my dude.

Thanks man for the words of encouragement and advice! I just needed a outlet of excellent mindless fun to get me away from all the pandemic coverage. What better way! lol A little similar in regards to you as my time for playing usually happens after my daughter goes to bed. I get a couple hours a night of jamming it out. It’s going take me a lot longer to get acclimated to all the content and unlock the good cards. I must admit that I was growing tired with some of my stock players on my DD roster like Kole Calhoun etc. Last night I broke down and bought a 30 pack and 10 pack bundle. I actually got some pretty good cards for my standards. Pulled a Diamond Arenado, gold Starling Marte, gold Whit Merrified etc .
along with some good bullpen cards. Now my DD lineup can be obviously used for online play(which I’m not confident in taking my abilities there yet)vs the CPU for exhibition play and I think some challenges within the game it can be used. I believe Conquest too? Overall it seems like DD has enough offline play to keep me going for a while. Now I noticed that online play is required in a process to unlock some cards. I wonder if the developers of The Show plan to expand the DD to more offline content for guys like us?
