Great movie about Maris and Mantle. Aaron Eckhardt plays a perfect Mantle in this

The Natural, or Field of Dreams.

and although not completely about baseball as a horror fan I do enjoy the Battery for the most part.

If you have never seen it, Fastball is a good documentary type movie. Talks about Ryan, Feller and how they measure a fastball now.

For the Love of the Game (1999 Kevin Costner) is awesome because of the way they pitching is shown. Check it out.

    Bull Durham I love too.

Has anyone seen the documentary The Battered Bastards of Baseball? So good. I think it's still available on Netflix.

For love of the Game probably has the best baseball footage, but I don’t remember loving the movie on the whole. I do really appreciate that Costner is a legit ball player. One of my pet peeves is baseball movies with actors who have clearly never held a bat or thrown a ball in their lives.

I’ve read that a lot of big leaguers thought Moneyball was a joke, but I really liked it.

The ideas pioneered by Bill James and used by basically all of baseball now run entirely against baseball’s traditions and lore. Players are naturally resistant to being seen as just numbers, and they want to believe their special Magic is what wins games. They believe that a player that looks impressive and passes the “eye test” must always be more valuable than a fat kid that walks a lot. I understand their feelings. But they are wrong.

Another big and justified gripe is that the As success came mostly from the talented big three Zito Mulder Hudson, and they were brought into the org before any “moneyball” existed. Beanie may have gotten hidden value from guys like Hatteberg, but the big three (who were found by traditional scouts) were the engine.

Separately from that, the movie got a lot of specifics wrong about the people involved, particularly making Art Howe into a ignorant clown. That rubbed people the wrong way.

There are many articles on this, I think this is the best:
    https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2011/09/the-many-problems-with-moneyball/245769/

If you take it as a dramatization, not a documentary, it holds up fine.

The Natural, no question. Wilford Brimley played Pop so perfectly.

It's not my favourite, but I want to bring it to peoples attention. It's a documentary from 2016 called Fastball. I noticed it on Amazon Prime (at least the Aussie version) a while ago but assumed it was one of those cheapo lame documentaries that Amazon is full of so didn't plan on watching it.
But I finally watched it recently and was surprised how much I liked it.
It's not great, but is worth a watch in my opinion.

Screwball was really good. It's all about the Bosch and A-Rod scandal.

The Natural first and a tie between FOD and Major League for me.
