I know I’ve seen a couple threads about the new wave of prospect cards and how some aren’t happy with them (which I’m not really a fan of either). I don’t like them bc they haven’t done anything at the highest level, but you wanna make some, fine whatever. BUT when 3 of the top 5 cards you can buy are prospect cards, prospect cards?! Nahh man this is dumb. NO ONE should be up there with Trout UNLESS it’s a legend or maybe a flashback. We’re talking about one of or the greatest player of this generation. What about that Miggy card? Those prospects shouldn’t be better than that card! That card is so special man and if you don’t know why then go look it up. Then look up how many guys have actually done it. I could go on but there’s point.
Still April...
What’s that have to do with anything? It could be Christmas and I’d feel the same way.
Then you are overreacting. Would be on Christmas, too. It’s still early in the game cycle. They’re giving us a lot of options to enjoy. Some of these players are far from exciting, but if you can’t appreciate the effort, then I feel bad for you.
Brother I know it’s early but you can’t have a kid that’s in Double A be rated a 96 overall higher than someone like scherzer. What has he done? He’s hasn’t even pitched in triple A or done anything near Scherzer. Yeah I’m sorry but I don’t appreciate prospect cards being rated higher than some of the games best.
Then that’s on you. I pray I never get stuck with you at a party...ol Donnie Downer here.
-
Bro stop recycling jokes. Your judging me all bc I don’t like prospect cards who have no MLB career stats yet? Alright lol and it’s Debbie downer.
-
I understand your reasoning. However, I believe the real issue is that there is no season this year. Trout would probably be getting bumped up as well as nameless diamonds and golds next week while prospect cards stay the same. I believe it is a good way to introduce us to real prospects and get you more invested in them which will be cool as we see these guys develop. It’sa fantasy game though, play online with updates MLB rosters for real deal stuff. The truth is Cobb would get ordered with his batting stance in today’s game but he’s a 91 and I rake with him against Kluber ️

Thanks for hearing out, that’s all I want. I’m not expecting everyone to agree with me. I would be more fine with it if they weren’t rated as high. Say they’re around Mitch Keller or Luis Robert at the highest. At least Luis Robert is coming off an insane year, is in triple A, and most likely would’ve been called up this year and stayed up. That’s me putting a toe on the other side if I had too. But when you rate Patino at a 96 overall (best card you can buy right now) which is better than trout.. that’s very bold when he’s only in Double A. Trout is one of kind and has numbers in the MLB to back it. Even say scherzer if you want to compare Patino to a pitcher. It’s like bringing back Pepe Alazar.
And I disagree on Cobb’s stance. It doesn’t matter how you start. It’s about how quick you get from A to B. There’s so many unique stances out there that players have had success with. It’s all about timing and having a rhythm.
Yeah it is a little bit of a fantasy using players from all eras but they have stats to build their card. Now will every card be be evenly rated? No some will be over and under rated, but at least there’s stats from them playing in the majors to go off of. Prospect cards is all based on projections from minor league stats. That’s what I don’t like, but some don’t mind which is fine and we can all agree to disagree.

It’s a fantasy baseball mode. It’s not that big of a deal. If you don’t like the cards .. just don’t use them? Do you have a point? Of course. At least try to have fun with it. Or don’t play DD? It is what it is.
I know this is just a video game, but it’s a sports video game where ratings are based off of their stats and really what hardware they’ve earned even. Comparing a prospect rated the same as that Miggy card is like giving them an award before they’ve even set foot on a major league field. I know I don’t have to use them, I’m just saying what I think that’s all brother.
Unless you can ascertain with certainty that Mantle would have the same stats playing today, then it's just fantasy.
If you can make a Mantle card with better attributes than Trout without any actual facts saying he would be better than Trout today, then you can make future stars based off that same line of reasoning.
Mantle has 18 years of stats to go off of. What does that prospect have? I don’t care about then and now, stats are stats. Will ratings be perfect, no but at least there’s stats to go off of. Am I missing something?
Yes, you are missing the fact that Mantle's stats are 50+ years old.
So we can base card ratings off 50 or 60 year old stats, but not way more recent minor league stats? It's all the same "what if" fantasy.
Who cares if there 50+ years old? That’s where the game was then and it’s where it’s at now. All I care about is that Mantle was in the MLB and has stats to go off of. Not someone like Luis Patino (the best overall rated card you can buy right now) who’s most recent level was with the Double-A Amarillo Sod Poodles. He’s rated 96 overall by the way, better than Max Scherzer whose a 92. He may be a highly touted prospect and pan out to be awesome but he hasn’t proved anything yet. Using more recent minor league stats..? Do you hear yourself.. there’s a huge difference between the minors and the majors. Yeah, yeah I’d rather use 50+ year old stats from someone who’s played in the MLB over someone who’s only played in the minors to date.
Considering the fact that across every sport with measurable and quantifiable data shows how athletes have improved dramatically over the last 50 years, if we took prime Mantle and dropped him in MLB today, I think we would be tremendously disappointed.
Take 1936 Jesse Owens and drop him in the 100m dash today against Bolt and he would be almost a full second slower. Owens best time is closer to the women's world record today.
We all love legends, but to deny how much athletes have advanced as well as the game has changed in 50 years is just ridiculous.
Ruth was a physical monster in his era, 6'2, 210lbs. Today he would be average size for MLB. Oh and Usain Bolt from above? He weighs 207. (Side tip: muscle is more dense than fat).
Trout has 40lbs on Mantle and Stanton has 50lbs on him.
This is without getting into the off field issues that could have easily resulted in Mantle never making the majors in today's game.
So yes, I believe it is pure fantasy to suggest a great player from 50 years ago would remain a great player today. But I would never want Prime Mantle taken out of DD because of it.
But you leave out one major consideration... You want to time travel Mantle to today, but really he would grow up in this era if he played today so you would have to give Mantle the same benefit of the workout regimes, supplements, and undetected PEDs the athletes today are taking.

They should make prospect cards like your CAP. Where you have to complete mission or stat objectives to improve them to hit their “potential.” So for instance Nico Hoerner would start as a bribe player, but the more you play with him the better he becomes.

That's all true but what people never seem to get is that if guys like mantle played now, he would be under the same training, same diets, same baseball and would have grown up playing vs pitchers that threw 100mph like current MLB players. He would have had the same pluses that MLB players now have and would not be allowed to do most of the things that he was allowed to do then and would be a very different player with all the advantages that people have now. You cant just say take babe ruth and mickey mantle and drop them I to MLB the way they were then because that would not be how they are now.

I agree, but DD does do this.
They take legends from their prime and drop them in to the game as it is today. That's why it's a fantasy mode. That was the point.

I get that, I was just talking about the people saying that mantle wouldnt be the same guy in real baseball today, that's all. I couldnt care less what name is on the card. I love having so many cards to go and get and get whatever type of team I feel like making. People get so hung up on names it comical. Live series cards other than bellinger and trout will be completely useless soon like they are every year. So what does it matter if some minor leaguer is rated better? It's a fantasy video game card

Well, yeah we all tend to get hung up on names, don’t we? Think about the cards we ask for.. Baseball is a sport I assume that we all love here and those names are what made us love the game even more. Im alright with having the prospect cards but the future stars are wack. I don’t wanna see someone in Double A having a card that’s better than stars in the mlb today. Just ain’t right. I can handle how the prospect cards were rated but the future stars, nahh. Yeah your right, a lot of live series cards will become useless after awhile, but it’s lame that it’s happening now to future star cards. It’s comical that Alec Bohm is a 95 overall like Mike trout. Even better than that 2012 Miggy card? Or Luis Patino is better than max Scherzer. The kids highest level is Double A and he’s the Padres 3rd best prospect. That’s comical. Is this still only April? Yes. Will there be better cards and sig cards? Yes. But I still don’t like where they’re rated. Yeah this is a fantasy mode but it’s a mode (or was) where cards are based off single seasons and careers in the MLB, not the minors. Getting cards like eloy, tatis and etc. last year wasn’t bad but that’s because they were knocking on the door of the MLB. Im not asking for you or anybody to agree with me, just hear me out that’s all.
