Any oldtimers still here?

I started here with '09. Pedroia on the cover, but Triple Play '97 was my first game.
I also had MLB '99 with 989 Sports, which became 'The Show' later, I think. -
@texas10pt_MLBTS LTNS buddy!

Hey dude, I pop in every now and then. The game is pretty bad this year but it’s baseball so here I am. Hope you’re doing well man. -
I turned 50 last week. I've owned EVERY version of the Show since it began. Only started DD 9 years and I think my reflexes have slowed a lil bit.

- Been playing since day 1

I’m 59 now, and my history with virtual baseball goes all the way back to MicroLeague Baseball in 1985. I originally picked it up while recovering from a knee injury that ultimately ended my playing days three years later. Since then, I’ve been through them all: HardBall!, Earl Weaver Baseball, Baseball Pro '98, MVP Baseball, the 2K series, and I've been playing MLB The Show since 2019.
Here’s the thing: as these games get more advanced with their graphics and mechanics, it feels like they veer further away from the actual heart of the sport. I’m a staunch traditionalist—I will always believe in the eye test over sabermetrics—and this year's release has been incredibly frustrating on that front.
All that being said, I just love baseball. Flaws and all, The Show is the one thing that keeps my mind on the diamond where it belongs.

@maurice91932_PSN bringing up some oldies but goodies. Cap collection was awful lol...The internet guy was always saying he'd beat everyone if he had decent internet and everyone was playing from McDonalds. And everyone wanted a shot at Pitching Rebel.

I've been playing DD since 18, posted a fair amount back then but now I mainly just lurk. I remember some of the crazy people, the guy who complained that every opponent and everyone who posted were "center swingers".

I'm 58 and have been playing The Show since 15. Played MLB 2K, which I did like the presentation. I go all the way back to the late 70s when I played Strat-O-Matic. Played SOM on the computer for a while after starting with dice and cards.

JJdaggas or something like that was his name. I played him a few years ago and he messaged me recorded voice messages over and over again calling me a center swinger amongst other things. He is the reason I switched to no longer accepting messages. It was pretty funny though I guess.

@dr_zoidberg25_MLBTS That was his name! I was trying to think of it, thanks for posting. Don't blame you for switching messages off, he posted some really off the wall stuff. I don't think I'll ever understand his whole center swinging obsession, lol.

I'm 47, I'm an OG of the community and my skill has really fell off. Can still make CS but that's about it with the new strikezone, and facing pinpoint players i'm out in 2 or 3 pitches every AB -_-
-
@texas10pt_mlbts , nice to see you again.
Similar to all of you, I played for a long time but fell off when they started treating the PS4 version like a step child and I had not upgraded to a PS5.
It gave me the opportunity to go back to all the single player games that I had neglected when all I did was play the Show.
I remember all the bunt cheese arguments, the lack of cards back when flashback cards were almost nonexistent, so everyone had the same lineup argument and that internet guy. I can always him claiming he had the best interest because he had Google fiber in his neighborhood and every year, he would do it to the point it was ridiculous.
I’m also an “old timer” in my mid fifties.

I’m 51. Been playing since 2015. Not nearly as good as I used to be. Still enjoy from time to time. I’m a weekends mostly player.
