How is the Community Market feeling? (5)
-
I’m now at 2 hours before I can use the app again even though I haven’t used it since 10am.
-
@Oliver230230230_PSN have you been able to use the app after your initial 10 minute restriction?
-
I was able to use it to place like 700 buy orders, but when I tired selling I got through maybe 20 before I got the "error occured" message again. I stopped until I hear from Manu cause I dont want to have another 2 hr timeout...lol

@Manu__SDS_MLBTS The bots seem to be attacking pipeline Max Clark, awards Pedroia, and egg hunt Cam Schlitter amongst others.

It did not work after the 10 min was up but I didn’t try again for a while and it worked then.

@Manu__SDS_MLBTS it sounds like you are seeing a difference on your end and that’s good. I have not had much time to poke around the market today and the little time I do have has been cut short with error notices. But I’m not complaining about it. Not to get too technical, is recapcha just weeding out bad traffic from web browsers or is there some kind of integrity check happening with connections from the app that are getting a pass/fail token before successfully interacting with api? I haven’t seen a recaptcha pop up in the app, but maybe some kind of integrity check is happening? Is that what is causing the timeouts or errors? Or is there rate limiting also in place? Last question, you mentioned last phase being integrity check or something, is this the last step in the 1,2,3 stage push you mentioned at the start of the week?

Well it let me do maybe 60 sell orders and then gave me a 3 hr timeout. It would really help if I knew why it was doing that. I even slowed down on placing orders which I hate so much, I can do 20 orders in 30 seconds, but I have to make it take 2 minutes for every card I do 20 orders on? Why does how fast I hot "finalize" make me a bot? I can't do 500 orders in 30 seconds like they do so it should be pretty easy to tell.

So is the speed that I place my orders? How many orders I do in a certain amount of time? If so how many and what time frame? None of that should matter because I do everything on an android phone and dont break any TOS. You can use the app to buy and sell.....just dont buy or sell to much....oh and dont place orders fast either. It's really messed up I have to keep dealing with this because I'm fast at flipping and have alot of time on my hands right now.

@PittsburghPAVS_XBL The issue in a nutshell is that the app is what enables the bots to work. With that being said, the only real solutions to the bot issue is to either a) put a limit on the number of transactions that can be done on the phone, b) use a delay between transactions, c) remove the market from the app or d) have every transaction require a reCAPTCHA check.
Solution A, puts a hard limit on the number of transactions, but would the limit be? 100?, 200? 1000? too many and the bots can still function, too few and you have players complaining.
Solution B, means that the bot writers just have to program in the delay and they still function as normal, just not as quick.
Solution C, means that all transactions have to be done via console and that would more than likely solve 80 to 90% of the bot problem, but again the players will complain because they can't do transactions while away from the console.
Solution D, means that every transaction has to do the reCAPTCHA, and everyone will complain about that due to how much of a pain it will be.
The choices to get rid of the bots in the marketplace all have their drawbacks and there will be complaining no matter what they do.
Even though I use the app to sell dupes while away from the console, I would rather they remove the marketplace, if it got rid of the bots and make the market work like it did years ago.

Just for me it would seem placing 60 orders on the community market is a ton of activity for one person to carry out. You wrote that you can carry out 20 orders in 30 seconds. OK, to my mind that's pretty close to bot level activity. It seems rather extreme for a human. I mean, seriously man, that's one order carried out every 1.5 seconds.
My conclusion? You just put forward the logic of throttling order activity to ensure it remains a human endeavor vice a bot endeavor.
