Reminder: Not All 99s are Created Equally
-
From here on out we will be getting lots of 99s. But let us remember that these 99s are not all actual 99s. That is just the cap. If you logically carry out the levels beyond 99 these players would be 100, 101 or higher.
I have a program that predicts what the overalls would be if they were not capped and here are all of the 99 position players and their projected OVR. If the calculations of my program are even remotely correct then a player with maxed attributes across the board (I used Willie McGee as my example) would be in the 115 to 116 range.
107.42 Carlos Beltran
105.85 Troy Tulowitzki
105.07 Andruw Jones
105.04 Victor Martinez
103.59 Albert Pujols
103.01 Miguel Cabrera
101.97 Dustin Pedroia
101.96 CJ Abrams
101.93 Cody Bellinger
101.42 Ken Singleton
101.06 Ray Durham
100.98 Jason Varitek
100.98 David Ortiz
100.97 Ryan Braun
100.96 Willie McGee
100.91 Honus Wagner
100.77 George Kell
100.07 Brice Turang
99.95 Gabriel Moreno
99.94 Jackson Merrill
99.94 Yordan Alvarez
99.93 Ernie Clement
99.92 Ezequiel Duran
99.91 Shawn Green
99.87 Salvador Perez
99.86 Alan Trammell
99.86 George Lombard Jr.
99.85 Mike Trout
99.84 Max Clark
99.80 Roch Cholowsky
99.77 Jordan Walker
99.71 Geraldo Perdomo
99.62 Kazuma Okamoto
99.49 Heriberto Hernández
99.44 Esteury Ruiz
99.35 Byron Buxton
99.22 Nolan ArenadoAnd though they play different positions here is the difference between the lowest rated 99 and the current highest.

I also think people shouldn’t get hung up on a cards overall or total overall score. Try the cards out don’t stick with cards that you are not hitting with because on paper they are the best card. I benched Tulo because I’m hitting .560 with Trammel on ranked.

For example, that Arenado card rakes. Can go opposite field and turn on inside sinkers as well as any right handed card. Makes a lot of insane plays at 3rd too. Always makes me smile seeing him make crazy plays at 3rd.

I actually agree. Programs can only crunch numbers and can't take into account intangibles like swing or whether they are a switch hitter, etc. Or, in my case a lot of times, how much I like a specific player.
But it is inevitable that we see posts saying "How is this card a 99 compared to so-and-so".

Totally agree. For the most part, overall ratings are basically meaningless. Especially when you're getting in to the 96+ territory.

He is great defensively. I just don't hit well with him. I'll try this one.
I believe they should go to 100's, like 2K. After that, they have 'Invincible,' and 'GOATS. ' -

I don't think that I agree. The bar would just move until a few years from now we would be getting 110s at the all star break and every random player or late season Spotlight and topps now player are getting 110.

I believe they need to do a reset of this creep and go back to where a 99 is special.
This is what 2K has become. A player with a grand total of 82 points lifetime gets a fully maxed card.

I love people playing different cards, but theres a lot of small sample size and confirmation bias.
...Unless you're a true timing hitter (where you time swing with leg kick) - in which case, you're gonna have your guys you know, and you're probably gonna absolutely rake if you can actually do that method.
If you're a regular hitter whos pretty decent, you really need that power stat. Otherwise, its a lot of squared up balls lining into gloves at the warning track. As you get better in this game, you learn that its just "how often can you homer" and nothing else matters.

Also, with it being so much faster to parallel players this year some of those lower 99s can easily be modded to be pretty close to the higher ones. Like ive currently got Jordan Walker in my DH slot and im working on getting him a diamond contact mod to go with his maxed out power.
