You could put out 2 cards per position or 200. There’s always going to be a “best” card that ends up becoming everyone’s go-to.

@SaveFarris_PSN yeah, this is the problem. But, you could have a system that basically pushes people to use the other cards. (It makes the "go-to card" even better if you use the other cards...). This is the whole idea behind a "crafting system."

I think people watch streamers way too much and rely on these “meta” teams. then I see someone hitting .260 with Tulo with 300 ABs in center instead of trying out other cards. I am hitting over .600 with Trammal in Ranked so I benched Tulo. The depth is there. People just don’t want to try them out.

I submit that the system needs radical reform.

The entire notion that rewards are obtained merely for trading on the market is the heart and source for all the problems we have seen develop. Fake value being traded in a fake market, all designed to elicit hard currency from players.

SDS won't adopt these foolproof solutions any more than they resisted the marketing gimmicks to begin with. They value the chance for post-sale revenues above everything else -- basic gameplay, graphics, immersion, and everything else related to what MLB The Show was originally designed to be -- a baseball game, not a Wall Street day trader simulator game!

Eliminate the community market. Every reward you earn comes from your individual quality of on-the-field play. To allow customers the freedom to tailor their online teams how they desire, their players can wear any equipment desired, and their play on the field earns vouchers with a set maximum value. That value allows the player to select any card of lesser or equal value.

The second solution is absolutely zero way to purchase stubs. Because stubs are eliminated entirely. Tokens for RTTS player improvement are obtained only through on-the-field performance. These have one purpose only -- to improve the attribute level of your RTTS avatar player.

If SDS released a software update to the game that enacted these two recommendations, all the bots, all the third-party cyber crime websites are ruined. They have zero remaining purpose.

@PriorFir4383355_XBL And how would SDS make $ without people being able to purchase stubs?

SDS returns to what sustained them for decades, even prior to the formation of SDS itself. They sell the best baseball video game on the market, and work their butts off to keep it that way!

Life is just that simple when people stop listening to cheap schemes and devote a passion to being the best, the absolute best.

It is truly amazing how many thousands of corporations were built into giants of industry based on that very simple principle, and hiring only people devoted to it. A lot of those corporations then went belly up when they complicated things and tried schemes vice pursuit of excellence.

This wouldn't work. They need steady income through the season to afford all of the in-season content and continual patches, etc.
This isn't a game from the 90s that gets made, released, and forgotten about while they move onto the next one. It has a full life cycle which needs continuous nourishment from the studio. And that means they need continuous income throughout the year. If you want them to stop monetizing it completely the game itself would have to be like $1000 or more.
I do think they have pushed over the limit of necessary monetization myself, but taking it away from them completely is a ridiculous idea.

Maybe they plant now so next year it grows big and strong earlier and can feed itself come drought season? WTF are you talking about. The game can’t survive without several nourishment payments? This place gets dumber by the minute.

@virusts_PSN Im not that obsessed with meta. If you love Alan Trammell, thats great - he was my favorite player watching Tigers games in the early 90s.

    But, a couple things...

    1. Most people saying "I like this non-meta player way better!" are using sample sizes that are WAY too small.

    2. The meta is meta for a reason - certain archetypes are always way better in this game.

    3. It would still be WAY better if most rewards had value. Just think! - youd actually be a little excited to open packs, instead of bored stiff

    Really?

I'd love to see your empirical evidence that the game would have to be priced at $1,000. If you're going to pull facts out of your real quarters, then at least show folks you respect them enough to guess at something even halfway plausible!

@PriorFir4383355_XBL no gaming company is dimpling gonna only release the game and that’s all the money they make. Especially a sports game where content has to be sent out in a fairly often fashion on a yearly released game. It cost money to continually run a game for those period of times.

This was my point exactly. Thank you.
If they are doing continual updates then that takes a team, which needs a continual income stream to work.
If they choose not to have an income during the season from micro transactions then they would charge a [censored] ton for the game itself all at once. That was where the $1000 came from.
One way or another they need money to keep the content flowing

Funny how for decades they managed to do it then!

I think you're leap to exaggeration placed you into a logical hole that you cannot climb out of. First suggestion? Stop digging the hole!

The only way they could ever go back to that model would be to eliminate diamond dynasty mode completely. Nobody has ever released a live content game for decades, including historical players they have to purchase rights for, without having an income stream with microtransactions to support it.

I have so many "strange" cards that I cycle through on my ranked team. For example, I love the AS Bazzana and Vargas cards. I don't know why, but I'm hitting great with them. I think I'm number 400-ish to P5 with Bazzana of 1,500 or so, so not many people are using him.

Whilst that is true, it somewhat discounts the very real (and pertinent) point virusts makes.

There is a certain cohort of the community that are deathly afraid of being at any sort of disadvantage (even perceived) that they'll run the designated 'meta' cards regardless of result.
They do this because a large number of that cohort also slavishly obsess over streamers and think that if they too have an AMS squad, they'll be great too.

We're all competitive, but some seem to get their identity and self worth from these games, to the point where their "success" online defines them.
We see that here quite regularly.

@NotesOfJohn_PSN meh, I play a ton of different cards and enjoy it, but...I dont play ranked, only BR and Events. Im good enough to beat WS-ranked players about half the time.

If you're gonna play Ranked and care about your rating, you really cant be cheesing it up playing all sorts of different cards...unless you're absolutely elite, and can still crush people goofing off. But, ain't many folks in that club...

You can use events to get a taste for the swing online and try it out. I've been [censored] with Tulo online but I've kept him in the lineup mostly because of his top notch defense at ss with the hope he gets better. Then again I'm not a world series player and this year I've been too lazy to even consistently get to championship series. With that being said, the Buxton idea had me bring a full AS, draft and hrd squad to ranked for the quick pxp and I had fun. I would really enjoy some form of RPG aspect though or even salary/overall capped ranked. Something to make it different.

Close, but the more correct answer is that they're trying to give folks a reason to play online (and generate PSN subscriptions that online play requires). If everything is released at the beginning of the year, you'll see massive online tailoffs by July.

The tail offs always happen in August. All the cards are 99s now. They really do a bad job of keeping us interested at this point. They have to do more, then the same old mini seasons, same old events, same old ranked. They need to find a way to entice us to use alot more of our binder cards. Offline and online. In another month or so we will each have over a 100 99s that we wont ever use.

Create a new event salary program, create a ranked salary program, bring back battle royale programs. Same with offline.. create programs within mini seasons and conguest to earn rewards having to use different cards. Creativity is severely lacking.

Im tired of the same old switch hitting meta, seeing the same cards every game. Who isnt tired of this?
