SDS… You better be prepared for what’s coming..
-
@ApolloZ_99_MLBTS I just think taking players away from the game mid cycle is meaningless. I don’t think that is what will happen with GTA. If it comes out later this year and online drops before the show release, people will not buy the show because they’ll be wrapped up in GTA. Will that be a significant number? I don’t know, but I suspect it will be. Add to that a potential lockout and all the people upset about the mess this year, they are in trouble. I really hope they have big plans and real improvements for 27. Im not sure they could get me back for 27 and this point.
-
@Ditka06-_MLBTS When all the streamers are visibly upset about the state of the game, the negativity spreads like wildfire. There’s always a lot of negativity on the forum. This is different. This game is a disaster. The people that suck up to SDS, so they can get flown out to play the game early and get face time with the developers are so fed up they are trashing the game.
-
I agree, I think '27 will be a tough year for gaming in general because of GTA. But SDS is, I won't say in trouble, more of a crossroads. They need to take a long look at what they're planning to release. There's so many aspects that need improving. Server stability, and pitch morphing online, the timing windows need resetting (they tweaked them this year and they're far too inconsistent), Stadium Creator needs updating, better tuning of CPU defense...all of that needs to be addressed if they want to succeed.

GTA is releasing 4 to 5 months before MLB 27 so I don't see it having much impact. The people who just buy it for the story/campaign will be done with it by then and I am not sure the online GTA players were ever the same audience for MLB The Show.
The one thing I noticed in Sony's state of play this week was that there were a lot of games releasing in September trying to beat the GTA juggernaut to market.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN wow yeah. Not good. Did you see there is someone on the market selling five ohtanis right now? How do you get your hands on five ohtanis?
. Maybe they paid for stubs I dont know. How do you get that many stubs to even have five of them? But 95 percent of us cant get one. Like this isnt hard to see. Sds cant look at that person's account and see how this said person was able to obtain five of them. And thats just five that we can see. -
Yeah just imagine how many packs he had to open via the wbc glitch to do that. With the odds at 1:12,500 packs that comes out to being roughly 75,000 packs. Guy has probably been exploiting the glitch for months. No way those were pulled legit and even if bought low it still had to cost between 3 to 3.5 million stubs to try and flip.
-
@TripleH-4481_PSN if I can easily see it why cant they???. Check into this person's profile and check him out! Is it really that hard?

You can't see who is selling specific cards can you? Am I missing something?
Or are we just assuming because it was 5 at the same price?
-
@Dolenz_PSN five at the same price all for a million stubs. You can see it. Definitely the same person with all five.

Yeah I agree with this. I think there is enough time between the two that it won't have a major impact on MLB 27 (if there even is an MLB 27).
-
@Sarge1387_PSN That barely scratches the surface of what they need to do honestly.
-
@Dolenz_PSN Very few people buy GTA for the campaign. Online might not roll out until closer to MLB release. While it might not seem like the same crowd, a ton of people are going to be on GTA. I’m not someone who plays a lot of different games. MLB is my main game every year. Every few years I’ll get Madden. I’ve played Diablo 4 and POE 2 sparingly over the last few years. I’m going to be all in on GTA. I think people are severely underestimating GTA. It’s going to break records.
-
@Ditka06-_MLBTS Pretty suspicious assuming it’s the same person.
-
@Pergo_MLBTS Again, you severely underestimate GTA. GTA 5 is 13 years old. They are still getting 4 million active players per day. That is about how many they had at launch PER MONTH. They peaked nearly 10 years after the game was released. This isn’t a game people play for a few months and put down. It’s probably the most anticipated game ever and they are going to be adding to it for a very long time.

Yea that game is going to do very well unless it is majorly broken and I don't see that happening. Hell, I might get it and if I'm playing when MLB comes out I might not change. Especially when you consider how much you have to play to keep up and still can't. I have around 250 hours and have zero collections done completely. Don't think that won't enter my mind along with the cheaters and the glitchers.

I get ya, its going to be a huge game, no doubt about that. I just don't think it'll cut in to sales for The Show in a major way. Maybe people play it a little less with another option out there. I'll definitely be buying it. It just feels like every year there is some game that everyone predicts will "kill" this game, and it never really happens. But again, I do acknowledge GTA is bigger than all of those.
-
I don’t know how you got that out of what he said.
-
Big releases tend to hurt their own genre and not genres outside of it.
The most disruptive game I can think of was WoW, which killed many smaller MMORPGs but had little impact outside of the genre.
GTA Online has the urban sandbox niche basically to itself (I think APB still exists). Thats why it has those impressive numbers so many years later. I don't think GTA VI will impact the online gaming space much. Sure, games will take a bit of a hit but its not going to collapse any player bases, not even the GTA V online one.

It made billions in 24 hours two weeks before online was even really a thing. Don't most realize just how huge, how culturally significant, this game is and will keep being?
-
@Pergo_MLBTS I’ve always been against those narratives, but I do think this is different. I could be wrong. I think a bigger factor is how bad this year has been. Lots of people aren’t going to buy next year because of it. I’m one of them. GTA just makes it possible for me.
