AND an undisclosed fine! For giving them Degeneration X Chop! I'm sure an example has to be set for future players, but C'mon man! Wipe off that mascara and pull them panties up!

A fine here is perfectly legit, but the cost of one game for a player (even though he's a pitcher) is preposterous.

Did the Cards provide free spa days and therapy session for their offended players? I' pretty sure not.

1 game for a pitcher is basically nothing, especially a reliever. He pitched last night, will serve his suspension today since he’d probably be unavailable anyway. No big deal. It’s just a show to keep it in check a little.

@SavageSteve74_PSN I get that part completely. But what if it was a batter? Do you think the outcome would have been limited to just a fine?

Probably, a game suspension for a batter has more consequences than a pitcher. I also think the league is trying to keep pitcher celebrations in check a bit more than hitters.

I don't know. If the the roles were reversed I wouldn't mind a Cardinals player getting punished for it.

In this very old man's opinion, as someone who watched a lot of wrestling in the attitude era, I don't believe that the gesture has a place on the baseball field.

The league knows that gestures like that are only going to raise the chances of escalation and benches clearing brawls in the future.

@Dolenz_PSN That clarifies it much more. Never thought of the "brawl" factor

I think context also matters. There was no need for Uribe to be that pumped up to celebrate that big. It was the 8th inning of a 6-0 semi-blowout, all that gesture was going to do was backfire on him and his team. I get he may not have liked having a challenge called on that pitch, but it was super close and if that ended up a ball, oh boy would it have been messy.

I liked that Murphy addressed it right away with him, you could tell a lot of his teammates felt it was too much.

Anthony Edwards did exactly that and had no consequences.

Gotta draw the line somewhere otherwise it happens on the little league field next. Nothing wrong with showing a little sportsmanship. Besides do we really want to see Vince McMahon’s attempt at starting a baseball league?

    Lol remember the xfl?

Praise be to God that McMahon doesn't make his own baseball league. I don't even think it'll attract real talent.
