Wouldn’t be shocked at all if this is just the final money grab before the series is dropped next year. Based on the current direction if there is a game next year and baseball has a prolonged lockout the game is toast. Bottom line I strongly feel the game is gone within the next 2 years.
I just don't see that happening. According to Gamespot it was the 12th best selling game in 2025 and that was without counting digital sales on Nintendo or Xbox. Through April 22nd of this year they are ranking it as the 2nd best selling game of 2026 (behind Resident Evil: Requiem).
So it sells well and that is before counting the microtransactions.
I just can't see it going away.
That’s definitely one way of saying it didn’t sell as much as NBA, Madden, NCAA football and FIFA in 2025.

Nick Livingston, the lead gameplay designer, right? I believe he left after 2022, unless I’m mistaken. He probably felt overworked and underappreciated, like how Sony apparently sees this IP now, which is shameful because this studio moved a lot of PS2-PS3 sales. I myself only bought a PS3 for MLB 12. This franchise was so good, I spent over $250 for one game. GOW and Uncharted were just bonuses for me.

He got such a better job at Sony that he almost immediately fled to EA, of all companies. Sure, okay. This game is still a complete afterthought, which is undeniable at this point and a shame.

That’s another one of saying the only major sports game The Show does better than is NHL. I’m more of a realist, Top 12 sounds good until you add the fact TWO different companies make FOUR different sports game that all do better.
A mobile game has owned the rights to more legends than this game for around 10 years. Maybe they have some glass half full cardinals that aren’t behind paywalls for you?
