Can we please have realistic umpires in Ranked?
-
Funny responses … is it really that hard to stick to one argument line
?We have pitches, that are called balls which they are not … the game is capable to call strikes strikes … why can‘t it be that way?
-
I think both can be true. Every pitch that touches the black should be called a strike, and they can be a little more generous with perfect and almost perfect swings.
What a perfect response. Thanks for that

To add on: I am just watching real life baseball … We got the ABS system, that calls every pitch a strike, even if it barely touches the edge of the strike zone. That is what MLB the Show should play like
-
@YOSHI24_XBL no it should not. Learn how to hit. Stop relying on the easiest part of the game. Pitching is easy
-
This complaint always confuses me. Why should this game be different than real baseball - real umpires are significantly less accurate than Show umps. You should get ABS challenge though (as long as you can't see the box)
Hitting is a bit OP now - but only for the really good hitters (less than 5 percent of players). The foul ball thing is a problem, but I think most players need the help of getting bailed out routinely. Otherwise, strikeouts would through the roof.
YOU should not need ABS in DD in a video game. It is a coding error that is being blatantly over looked since 25. It has been stated by SDS that a 50/50 ball IS suppose to be called a strike in online DD. However there are multiple times that even a 100% in the strike zone ptich will be called a ball.
-
Hitting is not overpowered, we need pitches on the black to be called strikes tho. It’s crazy that people don’t need to protect the zone and get free walks or second chances.
-
@Ditka06-_MLBTS, never watched a game streamer in my life, and hitting has never been easier; I'm hitting 60 points higher than I ever have.
If you mean pitching is easy as in it isn't difficult to get the pitcher to throw the ball toward home plate, sure. In terms of run suppression in Ranked on All-Star, its a bit trickier.
Regardless, if your argument is that strikes should be called balls because you aren't capable of digesting the fact that you should have swung but did not, then you should probably be playing Mario Kart. Or checkers.
Maybe baseball just isn't for you.

If MLB The Show went with the true strike zone, playing ranked on anything higher than all star would be absolute hell. The amount of superdots that the PCI simply cant get to would be unbelievable. While the current umpire system should be improved, the solution is not to go to full rulebook strike zone. Just make the strike zone consistently 50/50, not what we have now.
-
@Onix_Savage22_PSN I was being sarcastic… the pitching is terrible. They want you to just throw meatballs in the zone so everybody can hit homeruns and have fun
-
@MrDero_MLBTS, yes... except that isn't fun at all.
I've never been a good hitter (have always settled in around. 240 after 5 games or so), but I'm hitting about .315 and have scored 26 runs in my last 3 games in Ranked. And I'm dumber for it.
Endless foul balls, hitters diving away from anything inside to stymie swing attempts, and now pitches aren't strikes unless they catch 51% of the zone.
Not baseball. Not fun.
-
@The_Joneser_PSN I agree it sucks but “it is what it is” they aren’t gonna change it lol
-
@MrDero_MLBTS just have a moonshot mode full time at this point for this people ranked is for people who want a real baseball experience that my answer to this or even have a casual mode for people who wanna “hit bombs and have fun”
-
@MrDero_MLBTS, sadly, that seems to be true.
It's just too bad that it infects the rest of gameplay... someone had posted a few days back about how out-of-whack defense is; about how everyone has a cannon arm and such. I've noticed that it's a real challenge to get to second base with anyone under 55 speed when a gapper finds grass and hits the wall... I'm talking about you, Pete Alonso. He hit 41 doubles last year in MLB, but he's getting hosed by a fair amount if he tries to grab second after hitting a screamer between the fielders. And forget trying to score or sacrifice him over with a fly to the outfield.
But, if batters are given endless chances at the dish and gameplay is tilted so that no one cries when they strike out, outs have to come from somewhere. More line outs. More ridiculous seed-like throws from the outfield with preternatural accuracy. This catering to the infants who can't handle not putting the ball in play if they're beaten has skewed this game into a boring and unsatisfying home run derby.
Call strikes. Make the inner PCI more generous. Kill the outer PCI altogether.
We've jumped the shark, here. Start moving toward more toward realistic outcomes, as advertised.

I honestly don't mind the strike zone. Balls on the black being balls benefit me some and screw me some.
The FOUL BALLS!!!!!! So much of a bigger issue. The balls on the black aren't common for me. Foul ball after foul ball on sliders in the dirt, fastballs at the eyes, etc. I could've struck out my opponent like 5 times and then the result is almost always a hr it seems.
-
@Ditka06-_MLBTS Umpires should have perfect accuracy in DD i’ve thrown multiple strikes fully encased in the strike zone and they’ve been called balls
-
@TheRupster12_XBL ```the gameplay for this game is the worst it’s ever been in any other MLB The Show, there’s so many gameplay glitches especially with the counts not registering right and check swing steals it’s just absurd, my hard hits are outs 80% of the time which that part is nothing new. I’ve thrown multiple strikes in the strike zone fully in the strike zone called balls. Game plays like absolute trash right now
-
It’s definitely fine as it is now. To make it like “the MLB” SDS would have to shrink the box of the strike zone by a half a ball width for it to be a strike. I do see them going that way in the future just to have that realism. Obviously keep perfect umps on and no ABS system though.

Problem is ranked isn't a REAL baseball experience. Why not? Because real experience would mean real rules, ball touches strike zone strike. Batter check swings and goes all the way around it's a strike. Diving 12 feet across a field to have a ball 90 degree turn into you glove for an out, yeah not a thing. A 107 mph line drive right by the pitcher, usually ends up as a single. Not a direct hit to the pitcher that goes right to the SS or 3rd baseman to throw out 1 of the fastest players or a ss or 2nd baseman doing a 2 step morph to snag it out of the air. And your bat doesn't shrink in size simply because a pitcher threw a low amd away slider. No these are CODING issues that have plagued the game for years.
