Yes, he is a pure contact hitter with no sign of power and has really good to great speed. He will be similar to a Tony Gwynn at best or a better average, less k's, and also a less speedy version of Billy Hamilton.
Only 4 homeruns in his entire minor league career is pretty terrible. Not to mention he only had a 114 wRC+ in Triple-A.
The dude isn’t going to be anything special at the major league level.
He can barely get a .100 ISO, so he doesn’t just not hit homeruns, he doesn’t get any exit velocity at all.
I don’t get this take at all. He gets on base. He has an elite glove. He’s faster than balls. Guys like madrigal are important because they set the table so a guy like Eloy doesn’t end the year with 40 HRs and 40 RBI.
By this measure, i guess you think Ozzie Smith “wasn’t anything special” at the major league level?
I’m talking strictly offensive production. If his defense is good enough to give him 4 fWAR a season, than so be it.
But only hitting 1 homerun in 134 PA at triple-A with a juiced ball isn’t very promising for what he’ll be capable of at the MLB level.
His offensive production is based around contact and getting on base (he has an extremely good eye and will walk a lot). I would rather he play to his strengths and skills than try to be a power hitter unsuccessfully. Didn’t ichiro always say he could hit 40 HR / year but then he’d hit like .220? Id much rather have guys like Tony Gwynn and rod Carew and Wade Boggs who could slap the ball around the field and not strike our 150 times because they were constantly trying to go deep.
He had an average walk rate of 8.4% in 2019. Not bad, certainly nothing special though.
I see him being around the same level as Kolten Wong or David Fletcher. His defense and contact might be enough to get him 3 fWAR, maybe 4 on a good year.
Triple-A homeruns were up by 60% last year, yet he hit 1. Even if you aren’t trying to hit homeruns, a good hitter would still hit more than that. But he has zero power and zero exit velocity, something that is almost essential in today’s game.
Like I said, he’ll probably be a decent 3-4 win player.
If he’s a 3-4 win player, I think that’s far from “pretty terrible” or “nothing special.” Which was my point all along. Again — I think 95 is completely ridiculous for Madrigal. If SDS wanted to super-juice a White Sox prospect who could potentially grown into an actual 90+ OVR superstar, I think Luis Robert would have been a much more logical choice (or Kopech for that matter).

Nothing like giving a a player who has only played 29 games at AAA and none in the majors a card rating equal to the best player in Baseball and the best live series player in the game.

I said his hitting and offensive production was pretty terrible and nothing special in the minors, and it’ll be even more apparent in the majors.
Those 3-4 wins would be almost all defense, like Wong or Fletcher. That’s still decent overall, but my main point about his offense value being very little still stands.
I agree that Robert or Kopech, or even Eloy to an extent, would’ve been much better options.

30+ of these, thought we weren't supposed to be seeing a ton of the same art in lineups this year but now we'll just be seeing a ton of 95+ prospects

Yeah, but if we go back and look at future stars from past years how many of them ever made it to their future stars card level. There is no way Madrigal is ever going to be equal to Trout, which is what they are saying by giving this card the same rating.

I don’t think most people would be happy about diamond prospect cards getting immediately replaced with another juiced version of the exact same card, and especially because we can’t even quicksell collected cards this year.

Yes but why limit yourself to only one thing when SDS has given you so many things to complain about. Granted they may lack diversity in card content but when it comes to things to complain about, the list is endless...

I wouldn’t have an issue if it was a different player, but this is a player who just got a card literally month ago. They couldn’t have been a little more creative? I just don’t see the point.
