Edmonds Deserves A Second Chance
-
I'm sorry, but if Jones is considered a lock, then Edmonds deserves a second look. As good as Jones was defensively—and he was one of the best—he was also amazingly bad offensively towards the end. So, having that in mind, Jimmy shouldn't have to wait. Really, someone needs to make the right call, and I'm not even a Cardinals fan.

As a Cardinals fan, I don't disagree but what bothers me more is that he fell off the ballot after only one appearance.
His biggest downfall was that he appeared on a Stacked ballot. Not only was it led by inductees Griffey Jr and Piazza but also future inductees like Raines, Bagwell, Trevor Hoffman and Lee Smith). That ballot also had all of the controversial players (McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, Clemens, Schilling) who would never gain traction but received enough votes each year to push Edmonds off many writers ballots since they are limited to 10 choices. I assume many of them just expected he would get enough votes to be on the ballot for many more years when they could more easily add him to their lists
Shoot Larry Walker only got 15% of the vote that year in his 6th year.
