Rest In Peace, Ryno
-
A Cubs legend, a true professional, and an inspiration far beyond the baseball field. Ryne Sandberg faced cancer with incredible strength and grace, which meant a great deal to many — including my own family. My mom was fighting her own battle with cancer around the same time. When she became cancer-free, we took her to a game at Wrigley and celebrated with a message on the scoreboard. That moment, in the heart of Wrigleyville, carried even more weight knowing what Sandberg was going through.
He will always be part of what makes the Cubs and this community so special. He will be deeply missed.
F*** cancer.

We’ve lost too many legends in the last few years. Very, very sad.
That’s a really sweet story about your mom after she beat cancer. I bet that was a wonderful memory for her and for your whole family. My dad just beat cancer (for the third time) and he and i celebrated by taking a trip to Cincinnati to catch a game. When you’re a true baseball fanatic, the game has a way of bringing families together and just being there when you need it.
I’m a Sox fan, but I always seem to hit well with Ryno so he is the only Cubbie who gets frequent reps on any of my teams. I hope SDS does something to honor his legacy.

Ryne Sandberg was one of my favorite cards to collect when I was a kid and may have been the first star player I learned about outside of Boston players. His cards were always so crisp and clean, idol looks dressed in red and blue. I think I may create a team of my favorite players growing up in his honor. May he rest easy - too young and he’ll be missed.

I did not know he even had cancer. Totally shocking report for me. He was a great player and person.

Don't expect them to do anything. They're lazy and dont like to strain their "artistic" brains.

Always seemed like a good dude.
RIP.

Very sad to hear about this. First first Theo Huxtable, then Ozzy, Hogan wasn’t a great person but an icon of my childhood and now Ryne Sandberg, one of my childhood favorites. Every All Star game was Ozzie and Ryno up the middle. He redefined what a 2B could be.

They should add a Ryne Sandberg program or a Cubs and Phillies conquest with a Sandberg card.

Was playing the Allstar mini seasons , Ryno came up to bat. Gave him a pass , couldn’t bring myself to get him out.

That made me 'well up.'
Was it with the bases loaded? Lol.
