For SDS I think it is less about who is deserving and instead who they think will sell the most copies.

Doubtful.
He was just on the cover in 22 and they have not duplicated cover athletes since Joe Mauer was on both MLB 10 and 11.
If they were to go repeat then I could maybe see Judge getting it since his cover was back in 2018.
I am expecting Elly or Soto although I would not say no to getting Pujols back in the game and putting him on the cover. But it is probably too soon for them to add him back.

With Ricky Henderson passing away, it would be a really neat tribute to put him on the cover of '25

I don't anticipate a legacy player, even a hall of famer, being selected. I'm pretty sure MLB wants to see their current athletes put on the covers. This is a marketing decision far more than a statement of honors. And when it comes to honors, nothing tops the plaque in Cooperstown and of course, Ricky has one!

@PriorFir4383355_XBL I assume if Ichiro is inducted he'll be on the cover because of how popular Japanese baseball is now

So many Hall of Famers have passed in the last few years. None of them made the cover so it is doubtful they would change that for Henderson. If they did then there would be an outpouring every time a HOF died to put them on the cover.
Besides, I have a feeling that their decision has been made and the contract signed already.

I think I said it in another post, but I'm sticking to Elly, and he'll be announced during the "Now and Later" program in early February. We'll get a 99 Finest of him to use for 6 weeks.
I can't wait to be proven right. If I'm wrong, I'll just delete this post and edit it with a nonsensical GIF.
