Comprehensive List of Players Yet To Get a Top Card
-
I'll admit a good job by SDS getting a number of these guys crossed off.
But here's the current list for you. Still tons of big names. If a 97 or worse is their best card, I included them.
I've labeled guys likely to get either Finest or Postseason cards so it's understandable why they won't get another good card.
I reorganized the list so the crossed off names are now all on the bottom.

The blind supporters of SDS often defend them for releasing sub-par cards saying we need to be patient. They say there's not enough good cards left and need to spread them out.
Well, here's a list for you. These are guys I think most of us would rather have than the [censored] that's been released recently. If a 97 or worse is their best card, I included them.

Don't remove, when they get one, cross the name off. That way we can see the ratio to who got a better card and who didn't get a better card.

As of mid-September 2023, SDS had released 1595 Flashback/Legend cards.
253 Players received 270 '99' cards. (17 players earned 2).
16.9% of cards released are 99s.Comparative stats for 2024:
1285 total Flashback/Legend cards.
215 players with 222 '99's (Only 7 doubles. Judge, Gwynn, Fingers, Helton, Skenes, Shohei, Schmidt)
17.2% of cards released are 99s. -
@SaveFarris_PSN I don’t think Gwynn has 2 99’s, but they are clearly lacking in content compared to last year. It’s a bit shocking to me considering how many cards came from packs this year that they are still so behind from last year. It really goes to show that all the complaints about a lack of content are warranted.
-
Didn't see Al Kaline on the list
-
Jimmie Foxx, Reggie Jackson, Don Sutton, Dave Parker, Zack Britton...Did they lose the rights to these players? I'm guessing Britton retired so he's gone.
Also would like a better Fergie Jenkins and Noah Syndergaard (pitcher not OoP).
-
It does seem that they are beginning to run short of time to start releasing those cards. I think a lot of them may get finest cards.
There were roughly 127 Finest cards last year between 2023 and Flashbacks versions. The Cardinals had 5 cards. Goldschmidt and Arenado basically did not get their 99s until almost Christmas last year(12/21 to be exact).
Set 5 last year the Cardinals got 8 cards (Six 99s)
99 Arenado
99 Goldschmidt
99 Torre
99 Gorman
99 Holliday
99 Brock
98 Contreras
98 NootbaarIt's safe to say that I hardly used any of them because it was just too late. Baseball season was over, my interest had waned
As for the list, I don't agree that everyone on is guaranteed a 99 although I have no problem if they get one.
-
David Wright is a good example. One of the big legends for his team
Was given day 1 low card, good start
Has yet to receive a card since. There is no reason he shouldnt have had a 95 range card at some point, and then can get a retro finest 99 later.
While the mets have gotten a lot of flashbacks/legends overall there have been:
0 Piazzas
1 low Wright
No Leiter
No Pedro
Santana gets a stupid OoP cardAnd honestly I'll be annoyed if Seaver doesnt get a Hall of Fame card. Its the coolest card series of the year and all the big time HoF guys really should get one. Like, you know, mike Schmidt...
-
I'll add Kaline.
-
Santana gets a stupid OoP card
It may be stupid, but I love that card. Best OOP hitter in my opinion.
Also totally agree on David Wright. Absolutely asinine he hasn't gotten another card yet.
-
What happen to Ron Santo. Wasnt he in last years game? Why not now?

@dbub_PSN Love Shawn Green! He’s not included, nor has a 99 yet. Last year, that version was awesome!
And SDS missed a perfect chance to give him, Wright, mullins, and several others a card with Ohtani's 50-50 by doing 30-30 cards
-
Evan Longoria needs added to the list please
-
@Dolenz_PSN This is one of my main problems with this studio, they release the best cards so late in late fall/winter thinking it will bring in some huge wave of players. Most people, myself included are playing better games at that point. I'm not a big 99 card buff, but anything respectable over 85 works for me.
They couldn't even give Eckersley an 85. But a gold for late September is a joke
-
Seeing all these names laid out really hammers home the point that SDS majorly screwed up this year.
It's insane how many players don't have a top card now. And yes, they need to start releasing the popular players for every single drop.
No more Juan Marichal/Buck O'Neal drops. (Not saying they're not deserving, they just don't move the needle) -
If the BR Reward had been two other cards...any other cards...would this Juan and Buck be on your list of "cards that don't have top cards yet but should"?

Their pacing could maybe be better but I understand that they can't release all the best cards by the end of the World Series. There is roughly 5 months more that they need to at least attempt to keep relevant for those who play all year long.
And I believe all of those cards late in the year does entice some to stick with the game, maybe not me but I have always been more casual with it.

Isn't it funny how the Negro Leaguers Dont get the HOF card art, They get the old school art with 1 to No quirks. SDS, THERE HOF'S TOO!
