Anybody else play for fun

I can see people having more fun with 23 at this point since 23 is at the point where you can use any card without restrictions.
I would probably also say 23 was a little more enjoyable for me. The crossover of seasons meant that you were not starting from scratch each season and while they started to introduce more packs last year they have gone overboard this year.

I have been playing them back and forth and 23 plays better. Feels more polished. No big or glitches like pitcher arms, freeze off, or outrageous P/P going straight to gloves OFTEN. I won't say it's perfect but it's LEAGUES better than 24 right now.

23 was dog . 24 isn't much better. You keep talking about streamers, who gives a flyin fook about them? General opinion from the player base? According to who? You?
Ok Shauwn
Idk who Sean is but your low mental capacity and weak critical thinking skills are showing.
23 wasn't and isn't perfect. You can play them side by side and see the clear differences in overall quality of the game either by graphics or gameplay.
Streamers carry weight ad they have a voice stronger than the non streamer.
All you have to do is read that forums to see the complaints and issues. So no, it's not just me. Again, that just shows yours lack of reading skills or critical thinking since you can't see forums posts and read for yourself.....either that or you're just in denial or an SDS supporter/on payroll.Don't waste your few brain cells on this forum and go somewhere else if you can't provide actual input, Steve.

'23 was much better simply because of the amount of content. It wasn't all good, in fact some of the programs like Mexico City and Father's Day were awful, but there was always something to do. It also had full Topps Now and Monthly Awards programs every month and not the gutted version '24 introduced to sell more packs.

I do play for fun, but what you're calling fun, OP, is about as fun for me as staining a long stretch of fence on a hot day.
I can't imagine anything more brain-numbing and unsatisfying; what, exactly, is fun about throwing meatballs to each other to see how far you can hit them? Your little quip about getting an MLB coaching job is about as clever as your strategy... see, people that enjoy baseball understand that there are many facets of the game, and that when you simply ignore defense and pitching, it lessens the experience rather than enhances it.
I don't care about winning or losing, either. Some of my most enjoyable games have been close losses in well played games. Some of my least favorite are the garbage wins I picked up where both my opponent and I score in double-digits at Shield Woods Home for Wayward Boys.

You have to be careful talking about having fun on this forum. For some reason it makes some people very upset and emotional to hear that someone else is having fun playing a video game. It usually just leads to profanity laced temper tantrums and name calling.

How are you not understanding that people who complain are only complaining, for the most part, about 24? People ARE having fun with older versions of the game or they simply stop playing. That's great if you're having fun and you're satisfied with an objectively worse version of the game that's ever been released. That's great! Have your fun! But that's not the case for a majority of the player base.
For me, I have issues buying a game expecting it to be the same or better than the previous version and it's clearly not. I've gone back to 23 and while it's not perfect if you put them side by side 23 is better than 24 in almost every aspect.
I'm not saying MLB The Show isn't fun. I'm saying MLB The Show 24 isn't fun. -

Come on, buddy. You've no idea what the "majority of the player base" thinks, only the very small sample of people that post on these and other forums (typically, people who are satisfied keep quiet and do what they're doing, be that pertinent to this game or any other activity, while the vastly outnumbered unsatisfied crowd clamors for attention).
And I hope you used "objective" with your tongue in your cheek...
I'm glad you've found some joy with '23, and if that works for you, fantastic.

@The_Joneser_PSN read comments on YouTube. Twitch streams. These forums. Reddit. It's very common and more common to find people who dislike this game than like it. It's not hard. I myself would never have come to the forums after 23 and 24 started if the game was good or the same as 23.
Come on, buddy. You really think this game is better than the previous versions, buddy? Buddy, you can't tell me you're happier with these content drops compared to last year, buddy? Bud, the graphics are worse and that's a fact, buddy. Go compare for yourself, buddy. -

I think '23 was a fun game to, and a lot of people complained about that version at the time as well, and I got the same kind of reactions that I described in my previous post when saying I had fun playing '23 last year to.

@AdeptOfMemory_PSN, I agree with you that it's a lot easier to find people bashing the game than people writing about how they like it; again, that's how humans work. We're obnoxious and voluminous when we don't like a thing, and pretty quiet when we like something... I stand by what I wrote. The truth is that neither one of us knows what the majority thinks. If you believe otherwise, that's the folly of listening to the echo chamber that is YouTube, Twitch, these forums, or Reddit and mistaking it for a random sampling of people who play this game.
I really do think that this year's game is better than last year's. It's made different mistakes, but on the whole, I think this game plays better when you find the sweet spot (mine is HOF in large, low elevation parks, like Forbes and Barnes Canyon).
Not sure what you're talking about with regard to graphics... not much improvement this year (except the hair -- yes, it matters), but definitely no worse.
And this is absolutely a me thing (though I am not alone), but I far prefer this year's pack method to endless amounts of programs and collections. I don't collect, and in previous versions of the game, basically had to write off any of the larger collection rewards as unobtainable. I find programs boring, because it keeps me from playing Ranked with the cards I want to use. Now, I can just buy the cards I want with stubs, and don't have to waste hours playing modes I'd rather not play... since I don't collect, I sell off unused cards to finance the next batch.

The truth is that neither one of us knows what the majority thinks.
If this game was on Steam you'd see exactly what the playerbase thinks. PS5 to my knowledge doesn't allow you to give feedback like Steam does. Every game on steam has a rating provided by the community directly and give an accurate account of what the community thinks. I doubt this game would be mostly positive or even remotely close to positive.

@allday9128_PSN i will field this one , although i wont say i have zero fun , i will say its not AS FUN as i am use to , or even expected it to be , i purchased the game for something to do during rain , snow , heat wave , injuries where i must stay less active (work) ,times/circumstances like that , but $100 for a video game that you bought for that , you are stuck with it until COD is released in october

I play for fun, both online and offline. But in competitive online modes, I wouldn't expect my opponent to serve up meatballs and basically have batting practice.
Also, pitching a gem with a card you spent hours to unlock, or thousands of stubs on, is fun.

Exactly! That's why they shouldn't set expirations on them and let you use them as you please in competitive modes. Very good point.

My issue with 24 over 23 is the RNG playing online. Its very clear this years iteration has implemented some sort of handicap system for players not on the same level. I can have games where late and early on hall of fame go over the fence every other swing against guys better than me. I average between 8-900 every year. But this year if I get hung up in a ranked, Br, or event with someone that’s ranked 5-600ish than I get my [censored] kicked almost everytime. The dink hits up the middle. The late and early bloopers. Late and early home runs. The pitching mechanics suddenly not working. The comical defensive errors. The game absolutely does everything it can to try and hinder your performance at times and it’s ridiculous. The only reason why I’m playing is because 23 was removed from gamepass. 24 is a [censored] show and SDS has bounced

I do have fun at times, but it can be a frustrating experience at the same time. I started playing online back in Apr( after a several year layoff). The most fun I have is when I am playing ranked 9 inning against an equal opponent. It's nice when strikes are being thrown and hits are happening to score runs. However, every lineup is an All-Star caliber, and a ton of home runs get hit. I do not have any issues with the lineups, but with the fact that good pitching cannot neutralize good offense. Some of the issues I see:
- Pitching is inconsistent. Whatever pitch is being thrown may go wherever. It doesn't matter if it is a good release on a 1 or 2 pitch. I get the 3,4,5 pitches may not be placed all the time, but too many times my pitches are just going wherever they want. It's too easy to plunk a guy, with a ton of errant pitches breaking 2 or 3 feet out of the strike zone. If you miss on a slider, sinker, or etc...it is getting killed. There is always the errant slider that just flys away for some reason.
- In the 3 inning games, guys get gassed way to fast. With foul ball at bats sometimes going 8 or 9 pitches, relief doesn't stand a chance.
- The PCI indicator is the true weapon that proficient players have to destroy the ball. If you can't use it, you really are not going to win a lot in the long term. A lot of bad balls are getting crushed. I have benefited at times, but it makes for a lousy experience in 3 inning games.
- Pickoffs on a 1 step lead happen way too much.
I love the game and the ranked series. All video games are addictive, and they are built that way to keep us wanting more. Last year I made it to end of July, and picked it back up in Feb 24. This year has been good so far. I like to collect the cards, flip a bit and always complete the LS Series. This year did hit a HR by making us use LS players more, and having captains like Castillo to boost the players.

@AdeptOfMemory_PSN I like set and seasons. I have wild cards and can throw any pitcher I want in those.

@CULOSIN_PSN
Online H2H can be very fun, but a lot depends on your opponent. Rage quitting, along with other annoying things, has become too common. -
@CULOSIN_PSN I always play for fun, but the game. It is not BP, it is a game … I have fun winning but I can also have fun losing a good game (that is not played at the worst experience of it all … Shield Woods is just a disgrace … and so are all the other max elevation created ballparks)
