@Cubsfan217_XBL said in SDS, why can we not have Mark Grace?:

I'd love to have Mark Grace in the game. He was only the best hitter of the 90s. He should be recognized

    By what metric?

Tony Gwynn may beg to differ.
Barry Bonds may beg to differ.
Griffey Jr may beg to differ
Shoot Frank Thomas and Jeff Bagwell may beg to differ that he wasn't even the best hitting First Baseman

I understand being a fan of a team and it's players but lets not go overboard on the proclamations.

The only reason Mark Grace isn't in the game is because Mark Grace doesn't want to be in the game.

@Dolenz64_XBL he had the most hits in the 90s...

But does most hits make him the best? He played 218 games more than Gwynn in the 90s and had more than 1000 extra plate appearances. In that many extra games and plate appearances he only had 41 more hits than Gwynn.

If you look at their 162 game averages over that same period.

Gwynn - 218 hits per 162 games with an average of 42 doubles.
Grace - 191 hits per 162 games with an average of 40 doubles.

I am not discounting how good Grace was or how durable he was to have played that many extra games and plate appearances.

But I will still vote Gwynn.

If you measure best hitter of the 90s on the fact he had the most hits of the 90s, then by that logic Pete Rose is the greatest hitter of all time.

@Dolenz64_XBL now am i really saying Grace is better then Tony? No of course not. Im a homer lol . I do think he extremely underrated, and crazy that he wasn't even close to getting into HoF. He is one of two players to lead a decade in hits and NOT be in the HOF, the other being the sh1tbag Pete Rose. Not saying Grace was a saint i know he had some drinking dui problems but [censored]..

Yeah Pete would never have gotten past Cobb if he wasn't a player/manager. It easier to pad your statistics when you get to make the lineup.

Yup. Most people don't even think of it that way. But it is true, its unlikely he would have gotten as much Playing time at that time if he wasn't the manager.

Claude Osteen and Tommy John had just about or over one-hundred wins during their time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Neither have every been in "The Show."

Tommy John was in the game, forget the years but he was in 1 or 2.
