Do stats on a card matter (mondesi wtf)
-
So this flashback mondesi card..... the stats are underwhelming to say the least. But the guy hits more homeruns against me than the most elite hitters. I’m not pitching him differently, how the hell is a card that weak performing at such a level across so many users?
This leads me to wonder is there certain Easter egg type cards where the stats say one thing but they juice tf out of them behind the scenes. We know they can do this with things like “perks” and “quirks”. Would be pretty lame Imo. I don’t know how this card is hitting bomb after bomb, for real? And so many people are using the card with so many better options it leads me to believe that most everyone is on to it now, that’s why it was such a “fan favorite”.
Anyone have a take on this?

My take is that the most important aspect of a player in this game is his swing. Attributes are second most important. Mondesi has one of the glitchiest swings in the game, and therefore he plays way above his attributes.

agreed. it's either great or bad for me; bogaerts was the last gold I replaced because his swing was just so great and he was hitting like .500 for me, but fully evolved pudge just isn't doing it for me so far and i don't know why

Yep, there's def sumtin bout Mondesi's swing. Had him in my lineup for the longest til I got Rollins, but I keep him on the bench bc I hit so well w/ him... even tho I have better options (by card rating).

Absolutely. Some people don’t believe in glitchy swings but there is a reason people like Mondesi and alomar and not other option. Cal Ripken Jr. could have 125 attributes across the board and still be a bad card because he has such a bad swing

Where can I get that Mondesi card? Not on the market at all.
-
Chipper Jones is another example of someone who plays waaaay above his stats because of his swing.
-
I feel like it's 2 handed swings that usually are glitched
-
A player’s swing has been a “hidden attribute” that has mattered as much, if not more than contact and power ratings since at least The Show 17.
I hate the term “glitchy” as it is often used incorrectly and is like nails on a chalkboard, but when people talk about glitchy players this is actually what’s going on. They just have a good combination of swing and possibly stance.
As far as Mondesi is concerned, it’s not just the POTM cards. His live series silver was ridiculous last year. He just gets used more often this year because the stats are better.
-
That’s one of my favorite cards to use. He’s fast and his swing is smooth

He’s in the XP Reward Path. -
I think it is his trajectory. If you notice the altitude dots he is LD -- FB -- GB. Take note of your players dots when hitting.

Can you explain this a little more what you mean please?

The dots have to do with player ratings, not swing types

You have any source for that?

The dots in the center of the PCI illustrate what batted ball types the hitter generates best. The larger the dot the most his swing is geared towards those batted ball types. Top is flyball, middle is line drive, bottom is groundball.
Here's a blog that explains it:
"While the PCI is fresh looking and more useful now, it’s not literally brand new. What is though is the Perfect/Perfect dots you’ll see in the very center of the inner PCI circle.
When the dot is bigger towards the top dot, that batter will lean towards powerful, well-angled fly ball hits, while the bottom diamonds will lean towards better contact; hard-hit grounders that can penetrate out of the infield and line drives that will more likely split the outfielders."

Any other "glitchy" swings? I think Soto is like this as well. the ball just flies when he hits it
FOTF Buxton is another one that plays above his rating. He's not as broken as Mondesi but he's a great alternative to Trout who also has great speed and amazing fielding. He plays more like a 96 overall (at least for me and many others I've read about).

Idk if it's just me, but I feel like Bregman has one. Swing just feels "fast", like even if I'm late on a ball (pressing X) he catches up.

SDS said it in a stream. If the top dot is the biggest, they are a power hitter. Middle dot biggest=balanced hitter. Bottom dot biggest= contact hitter. I dont know a what the threshold is for determining which dot is the biggest, but take Duke snider for example. Against RHP the top dot is the biggest because he has over 90 power. Against LHP the middle dot is the biggest because he has power in the 50s. If the dots had anything at all do do with launch angles etc. the size of the dot would not change depending on what hand of pitcher you are facing. Just because you provided a link to a website that i have not once heard of in my life doesn't make it a credible source
