Multiplayer question

I purchased the standard XBox edition but do not have access to multiplayer games unless I pay an additional Game Pass subscription. I'm guessing there is no way around this but checking if there is.
Paying $70 for a game should include all of its features - no other (non-sports) game requires an additional fee for multiplayer access.

It’s not the game, it’s XBox
Microsoft requires you to pay to play online unless the only game mode is multiplayer online
It is also required on some to get special drops and rewards -
