Still no explanation why sets/seasons were ever added

@genopolanco
There are countless examples of this in the game. Numbers just slightly modified, new card art, copy and paste duplicates that play almost exactly the same.
-
The Rockies don’t have a large pool of old players to chose from and then they have to obtain those players NIL. Rockies career WAR leaders.
61.8 Helton
48.3 Walker
40.3 Arenado (active)
39.5 Tulowitzki
26.5 Story (active)
23.6 Gonzalez
20.6 Blackmon (active)
18.9 Ubaldo Jimenez
18.6 Holliday -
@fubar2k7 this has absolutely nothing to do with the Rockies. It was just an example.

You are pointing out the numerous Walker’s they threw at you. I’m explaining that the Rockies don’t have much going for them.
I didn’t have that problem other than active players getting cards they earned during the season. Same for other teams with a larger pool of Hall of Fame players or players with great careers to pull from.
-
@fubar2k7 it was one example. There are numerous. Just open your eyes. And that still isn’t a valid excuse for how many cards of the same player are similar. The fact that you are even slightly trying to defend what they did is honestly mind blowing to me.

I’ll stop beating around the bush. The Rockies are poverty. They suck. What are they suppose to do. Make up players for your trash franchise.

Kevin Costner is said to have a ranch there so maybe they could pull him in.

It worked for other teams!

Because it made them more money than ever before with even less people playing. Genius strategy, get dummies addicted to earning every card, then release 5 of every player, checkmate.
-
@DeleteyourTTVBTW I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Best user name.

@genopolanco
Before the '23 release, they said that Sets/Seasons were implemented as a way to give us "99s Day 1". However, the real reason was to have cards, that we earned or purchased, become expired.'99s day 1' was the distraction to keep us focused off of their true agenda of implementing a new expiring cards format. This was a new format that benefits them, and not the consumer.
Having a game format with expiring cards was implemented for the sole purpose of increasing revenue. That much is clear.

@genopolanco SDS realized that they sell more stubs at the beginning of the year. Why not have 4 beginnings of the year? Competitive DD players who no longer have the best cards will pay. People who want their all-time favorite team will have to buy stubs or take the entire 3 months collecting their team all over again, just to have it once again taken away.
There is your explanation. More money for SDS and Sony.

Who made this decision and why?
You can’t tell me it creates lineup diversity because if anything it makes it significantly worse. Pigeon-holing what players you can use is never going to create diversity.
I wish there was more backlash. I know there is a lot of people unhappy with seasons returning, but this is should be unacceptable for anyone. All this does is gives them less excuses as to why they pump out 8 versions of the same card.
How many times last year did you see players get a 95, then the next season a 91, then season 3 is a 94, season 4 is a 97 but somehow a significantly worse version, and so on? If there wasn’t seasons, we all would’ve just had the 95 and there would be no reason for them to release the lower versions.
This is one of the laziest things I’ve seen any sports game do with their ultimate team mode. They added seasons so they can just drop content without putting any thought into it. Have fun collecting your 8th Larry Walker in September.
Does anyone actually have a solid reason why this is a good thing for this game? I don’t care about if you think it’s ok, I want to know why it is better for DD to have this structure than not.
mate of course many of us agree with you on this - the best thing you can do is vote with your wallet - don't give them a dime - trust me with the current state of this game - you aren't missing out on anything if you keep playing older versions of it
Yes, this is the answer, vote out seasons with your dollars, as in don't buy then version. I'm not buying this years version, seasons and taking away the ability to sell WS and BR rewards was the line in the sand for me. And I've been a loyal customer since 2008.

same boat my friend - have a great weekend

@fubar2k7 still completely irrelevant to the topic but keep going if you want. Not once did I ask for more cards for the Rockies in this thread.
-
@Zshakeswitch I won’t be giving them my money this year either. This was more just venting that they ruined DD and it sucks for guys that have been loyal to them for years like we have been.
