A batting tip if you’re slumping
-
Something I’ve learned that really helps me in a slump. I mean this can change a whole game sometimes. If you’re anything like me, in a slump , I find myself not taking many pitches. It’s never too late in a game to start doing it. I firmly believe this game rewards you for taking pitches.
If I am in a slump i simply start taking pitches until I have two strikes. Usually you don’t even have to do it very long to find out the pitcher was throwing a lot of balls that you were swinging at. By doing this you will see more pitches and you’ll start getting better pitches to hit. It sounds simple, but I know not everyone does it based off my opponents.
Consistent WS players already know this. When you run into the best players, they don’t swing at anything other than good pitches. So before saying the hitting is “broke”, try this. I guarantee you start scoring some runs.
The good/okays and lack of exit velocity on some squared up hits frustrate me too. But that won’t matter when you are swinging a good bat. You’ll get your runs.
Take pitches until you have two strikes. It works.

I agree with this. Often times, even if the pitch is a strike, sometimes its a bad strike to swing at. Wait for your pitch, in your area and don’t miss it.

Yup. One thing I forgot to add is even if a few batters get out, stay with it. You will see everything the pitcher is trying to do or has been doing with you.
You’re totally right, just because it’s a strike, it doesn’t mean it’s in a location you will like to swing at.

This is good advice. What I struggle with though is that if I don’t gear up to hit the fastball, I can’t touch it. That makes me so trigger happy that I find myself swinging at everything. So I either sit back to try to recognize what’s being thrown and then being late, or swing early and look like a chump on off speed. But you’re right, and I think I need to make myself take pitches as a principle regardless.

There are perks in Showdown that encourage you to swing earlier in the count.
I don’t get it.

That Jump Start perk is basically the "Free Candy" van, avoid it or you'll probably regret it.

Its a trap!! I never pick those. Otherwise I'd swing at any first pitch regardless of where it is.

I guess I should have been more clear, I’m just referring to online play. And really just HOF difficulty. I don’t take pitches in All Star difficulty.

Any pitch I think is a strike . I’m swinging , I trust my eye enough to know when to swing or take . I’d say don’t overthink . Just go in there , see the ball trust your reactions .

I can’t stop pulling down on the left stick when swinging. Literally can’t stop.... for like the last three years haha.

You aren’t the only one. I have even tried different hand positions trying to not pull down. It’s a bad habit to break!!!

I have always been the same way. At the beginning of this year, I bought control rings that go under the stick. The tension prevents you from pulling down on the stick. Think of them as training wheels for a bike. After a week or so, I took it off and dont pull down on the stick (as much)

Thank you for trying to give us advice but that’s not always the case.
I faced a guy yesterday where he walked my pitcher and two other batters. I hit a perfect/perfect liner for an out.
Next inning the same guy who has been swinging at EVERYTHING, gets a meatball right down the middle that I aimed 2 feet off the plate for a bomb. Then another meatball bomb & another. Most off of OKAY contact.
I was patient, double plays and outs. He swing at everything. Bombs left and right with OKAY contact. Game is trash right now sorry.

Here’s what I usually do. Sit on the up and arm side fastball. Anything else take it. Then, when you get the fastball jam the pci in a totally wrong direction and be very late. If your looking for a week popup to an infielder, this is by far the best strategy i have found.
-
I will never do it to two strikes or they figure you out, I just sit on one spot until I’m two strikes and if it’s not there I won’t swing, once I’m at 2 I expand
-
Against a good opponent this strategy will never work. I’ve tried it and once your opponent figures you out they pump 2 balls down the middle. Their pitcher gets his confidence up and you are done son.

Confidence don’t go up as much on taken strikes, swinging strikes though it goes up fast. Also, if someone is dumb enough to pummel FB down the pipe thinking you won’t swing, you already won. A dinger or two on the first pitch and he’s in his own head.
Also critical, if you take an early 2-3 run lead, keep the same strategy. Too often I bail the guy out, swinging at everything trying to bury him. Next thing I know, I’m in the 6th, did not add to my lead and his pitcher is at 55 pitches and he’s clawing his way back. Get to the pen early!!

I said in my post you don’t even have to do it long before you see results. I wasn’t saying do it all game. I was saying by doing it you will see results.
-
In a slump, I turn the game off and go do something else. I’ll come back later and it’s usually better.
