Cardinals Going Full Nostalgia Mode
-
The Cardinals signings this offseason have been interesting as they tie themselves to their last WS title in 2011.
They Sign Lance Lynn, who I believe is the last active pitcher from the 2011 WS roster.
They sign Daniel Descalso, who was on the 2011 roster, as the Bench Coach
Now, they sign the last (I believe) active position player from that 2011 roster Matt Carpenter.
The Lance Lynn signing was not loved by all but he is an innings eater and that was a BIG downfall of the Cardinals last year. Their starters did not go deep so their bullpen was overused and overexposed.
The Carpenter move makes a little less sense. It is not about the money though as the Cards are paying him the minimum with Atlanta paying the bulk of the contract. He is taking up a roster spot though.
And there is still many who believe they need more bullpen help so they may have to do more 40 man roster moves to make room if they sign someone.
The best news for us as players is it means we should get the great Matt Carpenter flashback card again.

@Dolenz As a Cubs fan I never underestimate the Cardinals ability to make "Joe Nobody" into an above average player.
