I think sets and season is still a cool idea in theory, it's practical application has been far less cool.
I don't think sets can work unless they add a ton of new legends (which is unlikely due to the cost). With a limited pool like they have now there is far too much repetition.
Sets could've worked if they didn't start off the year with 99s.

Well... season 4, is a let down. Players i like (not the cards lol) Babe Ruth Sox card, Ernie Banks, Rickey Henderson guess. But they all recycles, outside of Babe being a two player this time. Not worth grinding stuff over. TA4 meh
