You literally have to buy a one millisecond monitor if you want to hit on those difficulties.

No such thing as a one millisecond monitor when it comes to input lag, the thing that matters.

I am starting to be able to hit on HoF. Average 4-7 runs a game where when I started I was lucky to get 2/3.
Be patient and I’ve had to start my pci from the centre. When back on AS I start at the top as have time to adjust.
Legend. No chance.
-
It comes down to practice like anything else ( good monitor and being younger with youth reflexes go along way too, so that isn’t in my favor).
I play all conquest and mini seasons on legend and usually am able to read the ball pretty well and win most games sometimes scoring 1-3 runs, other times 10 plus.
But some days I can’t hit at all ( today is one of those days as playing the event I can’t seem to square anything up all day)…
Keep at it, it is one of those over time you just get it things.

I press X.

It is simple, but difficult. I am older with slower reflexes so there is that. I found that it takes me about 12-15 innings or so to get my timing up high enough to be somewhat competitive at the plate, at those higher speeds. So I will usually lose the first game or two unless I practice first. Sometimes going to BR, Events, or vs CPU on Legend, helps get the timing up.
-
See the pitch out of the Pitcher's hand. With time, you can hope to pick up most balls and strikes within .25 seconds or so. Focus on the Pitcher's hat during the windup so you will be ready to pick up the ball out of his hand quicker.
-
Do not cover the whole plate. Not even most major leaguers (save for Vlad Sr.) trys to do that. Focus on a part of the zone and stay disciplined and do not chase. When you get 2 strikes, just focus on making contact within the zone.
-
Do not be too concerned with your pci accuracy at this point. In a competitive game, timing is more pressing, unless you are a YouTube star and have bionic reflexes. Just see the pitch quickly and let your instincts do the rest. You do not want to think too much. "Be quick, but don't hurry" John Wooden.
-
Practice. Turn up pitch speeds to max on Legend difficulty and practice timing certain pitches at various parts of the zone. Practice laying off pitches too. For PCI accuracy, practice by going into RTTS as a Catcher and practice receiving pitches within various parts of the zone.
-
Patience and Discipline are your allies. Bring your opponent back to the plate. You do this by laying off junk. Get to 2-3 balls and you will get your pitch within the strike zone. Do not be afraid to take a pitch or two during your at bats. Wait for a mistake, and make contact.
-
Pay attention to your opponent's tendencies and take advantage of that. Do not think too hard though. If you think too much, you will be late on everything. Again, let your instincts take over.
-
Make your opponent work for outs. Just do your part and you will eat. You will get beat, but so what. If you stick to your strategy, and are disciplined and patient, you will have some success and most importantly, will improve.
-
"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face" - Iron Mike. ......You will get blown away by fastballs and look silly on junk. That's ok, just get back up and keep your focus. I lost my share of late inning games because my opponent kept their focus. I lost a few years ago 8-7 after being up 7-0 goung into the 9th. My opponent got back up and stayed poised. I will never forget that game. That needs to be your mind set.
-
-
Definitely need more practice. The 2,000 conquest games and moments on veteran grinding these program has definitely made it pretty rough

Monitor definitely helps. Also I’m not suggesting you go out and buy a new console but playing on Xbox definitely helps. I played on ps4 for years then moved to ps5. Had heard that Xbox played better so gave it a shot and it’s like night and day. On ps5 it seems like everything had a delayed response. With xbox if you press swing you swing immediately. Even on legend I feel like I can wait on a track pitches. On xbox for me legend feels like hall of fame and hall of fame feels like all star.

Not well.

This is one of the greatest treatises on anything I’ve ever read. I herby appoint you the “Doc Louis” of TheShow and I’m “Little Mac” in this case! Hey, you referenced Tyson and it is a video game forum after all hahaha!
Jests aside, I want to thank you for this…it’s very well written and it the thoughtfulness behind this piece is palpable. The tips are solid and it’s wonderful to see them all so well articulated. I thank you friend…the folks that flee from posts like this due to word count are sorely missing out.
Well done Sir! Just excellent!

I’m not a tech guy so I’ll concede to you on this…All I know is I bought a gaming monitor based on everything people said on here 3 years ago - 1 millisecond, 240 refresh rate…And I went from a sub .500 player to making World Series routinely immediately after. A good gaming monitor made all the difference to me.

That is true, but people often mistake the 1 millisecond "response time" (which is a marketing term for how quick a pixel can change color) for "input lag" which is the actual metric that dictates how long it takes for an input to be perceived on the screen. They do this intentionally to confuse consumers.
So pretty much every monitor nowadays has that 1ms response time, and they are all marketed as such. But not a single monitor has a 1ms input lag, and they vary quite a bit. So anyone who's looking to buy a monitor should definitely do a little research and look for the input lag metric first and foremost. -

Monitor does help immensely but it doesn’t need to be expensive or a gaming monitor. I play the show on my cheap all in one PC. It did the job. Playing mostly on HOF really helps. You get used to the pitch speeds and picking up the ball off the hand. Being patient is imperative. Forcing them to throw strikes. Also I like to take away the outlier fastball from the beginning. Once they know you can be early on that I start to sit on the off speed pitches.
I am 40 years old so I am not no spring chicken. But it’s doable. I think the game plays best on HOF
-
I'm an old guy too (62), and have slow reflexes. My hitting sucks online. I usually play on AS, but when I do bump up to HOF, and my timing is off, I watch the hitter's front foot. When the heel goes down, I swing. This takes practice (a lot) because you have to watch the ball too, but I focus on the foot first to get the timing down and then when I feel I have that down, I try and see the ball and its path.
The type of monitor you use can help or hinder as well. When I made the move from Franchise to DD, I had a lot of help from guys here (one of them posted in this thread @Oreo-Thomas_XBL ) that walked me through the steps to help reduce my input lag (everything from being directly wired to my router to my monitor). It helped a great deal.
There was a mention of playing on an XBox X vs a PS5. I have both consoles too. I prefer to play on the XBox because of the controller (wired PowerA Fusion Pro). It is more comfortable in my hands and the sticks are a little stiffer than the DualSense, which gives me the feeling of better control (my PCI isn't as shaky when using the PowerA). Both consoles play at 4K / 120fps, so there isn't much difference there.

I've been thinking about getting a monitor. You're saying it's worth it?

Put the pci on the ball and swing with good timing if it’s a good pitch. This always has lead me to success

It’s definitely worth it…And not just for this game. Ever since I got a monitor I have become a much better COD & Halo player too. It really does make a difference…Just make sure to do your research first.
