EA is coming… SDS to worry ?
-
My buddy the other day did some digging on WIKI and found some interesting information regarding EA and this quote for quote what it said “ EA acquired Metalhead Software in May 2021, the developers of the Super Mega Baseball series. EA stated that they are looking to taking the core aspects of that series to integrate with licensing from MLB to publish a licensed baseball game again in the future.” which we both found very very interesting.
I think MLB the show 23 is good but it should be better and SDS needs competition to make a better game and I think it’s time to worry whatever EA has in mind because whatever the “future” means whenever that is but they’re coming

If they just let Metalhead continue to make Super Mega Baseball then they are different enough that it probably won't impact MLB The Show.
Despite the fact that Super Mega plays a darn good game of baseball, the more cartoon aesthetics cause a large majority of baseball fans to dismiss it out of hand without ever trying it.

Yes I don’t personally like the cartoon aesthetics but we will just have to wait and see what EA is planning.

I dont think any company worries too much about EA and sports titles. People said the same when they brought back NBA and what happened? 2k baseball crumbled as well. I don't think the show has to worry. I wish they would though because it would make a better product by being pushed.

If it’s anything like the NBA Live revival or Madden has been the last 3 years I don’t think they’re worried.

SMB will always be arcade baseball first. It was never about realism and simulation. It would be like EA worrying about All Pro Football 2K8 dethroning Madden. While APF and SMB are excellent games in their own right, it comes down to who holds the official license.
If the landscape was different and MLB sold the rights to EA, 2K and SDS to make their own MLB game, then there would be a discussion. MVP Baseball, MLB The Show and MLB 2K all at once would make for quite a battle.

That’s what I meant when I said worry I didn’t mean saying EA is gonna come in and destroy SDS. Like you said it would push SDS to make a better product that’s what SDS needs a competitor.

Yeah I agree I just hope whatever EA is planning that they do make a simulation baseball game so that SDS gets a competitor to make a better product.

An argument can be made that MLB: The Show, despite all of it's attempts to be a legitimate simulation, is also nothing more than an arcade baseball game.

If you're gonna play DD with default pitch speeds then yes it's gonna be an arcade game to you but for others that play on Legend with max pitch speed with matured sliders its very much a simulation.

This game is designed so ridiculous, Diamond Dynasty is a complete fantasy.
The real players play, PLAY NOW with live teams. None of this malarkey nonsense aimed towards the younger demographic. SDS should be ashamed of themselves for creating such a garbage product.

I see MLBTS & SMB the same as WWE2k & AEWFF. One is focused towards sim, the other towards arcade. While they both offer similar products, they are catering towards different crowds.
Instead of viewing each other as competition they should look at what the other is doing right and see how they can apply something similar to their games. That way both games enhance their playerbase and increase player overlap.
Both games are too different for it to truely be competition. EA will never turn SBM into MVP Baseball anyway, that EA is dead.

The majority of players are casuals and that's what DD is geared towards and that's what sells. Its sad, but thank god there is Franchise and the ability to increase pitch speeds and adjust Sliders.

I agree with you. My franchise stats are far from arcade especially now without weather effects.

Having seen the decline of Madden I'm not getting my hopes up.

Have you tried NBA Live? They had one of them free for PlayStation. I couldn’t believe how horrendous their return was like and imagine the same from a revival of MVP.
