I get everyone’s frustration but I said this before and I’ll say it again- this game is being treated as 6 mini cycles. Instead of one long slow grind- we get 6 quickies (TWSS). If they waited to tell us these cards wouldn’t be useable until it was too late, that would be absurd. But it’s been written for months. Any of you spending money/stubs certainly didn’t have to if you thought it was unfair. there are so many solid cards that are free. I haven’t spent a dime other than the $100 to buy the game and I have a tons of solid 99s that are end game. Yes, I flip. They gave me that option and I took it.
Do I like this model? yes and no. I wish we had a happy medium. Maybe no sets and seasons and dozens of end game 99s from day 1. But I definitely got tired of grinding for cards that were trumped by better cards the min you got them. I’ll use guys like Chipper all year.
“But you can’t, they expire!” not for me, I’d rather get a root canal than only play online. Offline is how I enjoy my games or a league with friends. I love when someone says the majority of players play online. How do you know? Most of the people I know either prefer offline or like both.
Anyway, I’d also like to point out that sets 4-6 are probably really short time periods or with be overloaded with insane cards like the end game always is.
6 mini cycles where their goal is to get you to spend as many stubs as they can get from you.
And they do expire for you. I also play offline only. If you want to do any Season 3 or beyond conquest maps or mini seasons then those cards will essentially be expired for that content. You would be relegated to re-running Season 1 and 2 conquest maps or the US map.
All I know is that when July 7th comes around, if my Cardinal Theme team is gutted because I am using so many good Set 1 cards (Walker, Edmonds, Smith, WBC Arenado and Goldschmidt and Nootbaar, Charisma Edman, Captain Wainwright, Gibson, Lee Smith), many of whom will have multiple Parallel levels, then I am more than likely done at that point.

If you used the same cards from April to august then your team in august must’ve been horrible because there weren’t really any end game cards released at launch last year
The longest card that was released at launch and stayed in my lineup last year was that 94 Ketel and he was done mid way thru the year.
My CF was 99 Trout that wasn’t released until the final BR program of last year
So you’re point makes no sense because my team looked very different in august then it did in April

Agreed.... it's not about "keeping it fresh" it's about keeping the whales spending money all year. It only gets worse every year in ALL online games now.

Do you not get tired of using the same cards all year long? Its to switch up ranked, it was a change ranked needed, you'll see different cards now in different seasons, The 99's in april wont be better then the 99's in august. Its a fun way of making the game feel fresh in my humble opinion.

They were pretty transparent about this change from the get go
I agree they were but they also said it was a trial and error thing to see how it worked out
Like I said earlier I didn’t really think about it in the beginning bc it seemed so far away and I guess in the back of my mind I thought- “they wouldn’t do that”
And obviously that wasn’t the smartest on my part
But then seeing how heavy the offline grind is this year and the season coming to an end in about a month it really made me think about it more as of late
And I stand by what I said- it’s absolutely ridiculous to grind/spend for a 99 cracked card
Then not being able to use said card and then having to do that grind or spend money all over again for pretty much the same exact card all over again lol
It doesn’t even make sense when I say it out loud

But I do remember them being pretty ambiguous about what further seasons/sets would consist of
So if I’m never able to use these set one cards again what’s the purpose of keeping them? What was the purpose of grinding for them and building their stats
Are they just going to make my Griffey and trout from season one obsolete and then turn around and gives us another griffey and trout that I need to pay/grind for again

You won’t be able to use cards that you grinded for and/or paid for from season one- and that’s my whole complaint
You’ll be able to use all of your cards, just not in every mode.

And not being able to use them in n ranked seasons, as I stated on the first page, is the reason this expiring card fiasco is ridiculous.
You said it’s because you spent money on them. Or “grinded” for them.
What you could do, is not spend money on cards that you won’t be able to use in your preferred modes of gameplay.
And for the free cards you got from “grinding” have the mindset that you actually got them from playing the game you enjoy playing.
You do enjoy playing the game yes? If not, then why are you playing it.
Again this makes no sense- there was no way to grind for certain cards- you either had to buy them out right or buy a pack and hope you got lucky. Either way it takes money
I’m not worried about spending money- I’m frustrated that you’re not going to be able to use the cards, I’ve spent my time/money to gain, which means I own them, any time I want.
I don’t understand why that’s so difficult for you to understand- and I’m saying that sincerely, not trying to be rude or anything
I don’t understand how it’s so difficult for you to grasp that people that have spent time and or money on anything in life would like to be able to use the fruits of their labors when they like to and not be told when they can do so- especially in something that’s supposed to be a fun children’s game- IE a video game
I understood when I spent money for Set One packs, that they would be what they are. I understood when I played the programs for hours, that I was unlocking Set One, and now Set Two cards. I understood what I was putting my dollars and labor into as it was laid out on day one. So I have no problem with it. I’m also not going to get bent out of shape about something that’s still 50 plus days away, and I have no idea what kind of content will dropped, or collections will be available on day one of Season Three. That’s what you seem to not understand, which I say, sincerely.
And this thread is me expressing my frustration with this new bizarre system
And from the looks of it I’m not in the minority here.

I just told you, broke down and explained that we didn’t use the same cards all year last year lol…
There was tons and f content realized last year and there wasn’t 99s released on launch day
So if you used the same cards all year last year then that means you used the same cards that were released in April, which were low 90’s all the way until the game cycle was over. And that means your team would’ve been horrible
They realized new cards all the up until the last BR program- hence the Trout BR reward that everyone wanted but it was difficult to get

But on the flip side I also hated getting the best cards as the regular baseball season ended and I was winding down my playing time for the year. I got the 99 Finest Card for Goldschmidt last year and probably played less than 10 games with him.

Same as well, i think with other games like madden that come out it makes it hard to keep playing, but when the new season for 23 launched a couple weeks ago I was so excited to play, I've never been so eager to play ranked as much this year as i was in previous years. The Season 3 launch will be huge as well. Just maybe simple down the TA grind just a bit, add more program points for online play.

Why not increase the Wild Card to include a pitcher and position player, also, why not increase the number of wild card slots as the seasons progress?
So for season 3 you get one pitcher and position player slot, then when season 4 comes, you get an additional slot for each, and so on and so forth.

I made this thread to express my frustration with the new system which in my eyes is a valid frustration
Nothing more nothing less- I never said we weren’t told about it I never said I was forced to grind or buy stubs
I did it on my own accord
But I still have a right to express my dislike in which it seems this game is headed
Which I did in this thread and it’s obvious numerous other people in the community feel the same way as well( which wasn’t my reason to make this thread for an echo chamber, but it’s still good to see I’m not alone)
I see people making threads on this forum about not being able to hit a HR in a moment on veteran difficulty- no shade to them at all but I do feel if they can make threads about something as simple as that-
Then I should be allowed to make a thread about my frustration that this game is seemingly going to make you pay for stubs to by the same players over and over again because your 99 WBC Trout is banned from online play and they will just make another 99 Trout that’s “eligible” for set 3
Oh and I unmentioned/untagged brev- you seem cool just got off on the wrong foot

Anyone remember last year, they release two 99s of Griffey Jr and Randy Johnson. I do believe SDS is doing is a food course of content. 1-2 is basically the appetizer, 3-4 is the main course with maybe the all star content. 5-6 is the dessert with the finest and postseason. But i get the frustration, some of us cannot afford to grind again because of jobs and family as well the hard work in battle royal. I'll miss the entire month of August's content so i will be held back a little. Its not endgame yet so we will see.

He won’t- if he finds fit you’ll just be banned from the forum and from online play in the game.
And fyi cbrev isn’t a developer- he was a content creator then got hired as community manager by sds to control people that don’t know how to behave themselves while interacting in this community

So you can just come in here and cry about it and not expect at least one person to call you out on it. You think your group of like 10 people not liking the set up means everyone doesn’t like it.

I made this thread to express my frustration with the new system which in my eyes is a valid frustration
Nothing more nothing less- I never said we weren’t told about it I never said I was forced to grind or buy stubs
I did it on my own accord
But I still have a right to express my dislike in which it seems this game is headed
Which I did in this thread and it’s obvious numerous other people in the community feel the same way as well( which wasn’t my reason to make this thread for an echo chamber, but it’s still good to see I’m not alone)
I see people making threads on this forum about not being able to hit a HR in a moment on veteran difficulty- no shade to them at all but I do feel if they can make threads about something as simple as that-
Then I should be allowed to make a thread about my frustration that this game is seemingly going to make you pay for stubs to by the same players over and over again because your 99 WBC Trout is banned from online play and they will just make another 99 Trout that’s “eligible” for set 3
Oh and I unmentioned/untagged brev- you seem cool just got off on the wrong foot
I have a feeling as I move along through set 2 that when I lose set 1 I’ll jump into your group of 10 as I put it. I hope the All Star cards will make up for it. I’m a little surprised they didn’t have batter and pitcher wild card to be honest and make these captains usable at all times thus another wild card of sorts.

I think the expiring cards thing is absolutely insane- didn’t really think about it when the game first released but now that we are getting closer to to season 3 and set 1 cards won’t be useable I really feel cheated
I spent money/stubs on some of these cards they’re my property. I’ve built their averages up and I want to continue to use them and decide on my own if I want to replace them or not
Imagine going to footlocker spending money and buying 3 pairs of sneakers and the manager comes out and says- “thank you for your purchase, you can only wear the brown sneakers for a month and then you have to burn them”
like this makes no sense
You knew this before you bought the game. Why did you buy it? You then knew it and bought the stubs. Why did you buy the stubs? Are you a stupid person?

Yea absolute facts about the pitcher and batter wildcards. I just said in one of my other posts that I wouldn’t have complained if there was an option to bring over 3-4 wildcards after a set is over. I think 3-4 cards would satisfy people but also still make them grind for the new players in the new sets

I can't tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart I'm so very, very sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame

I agree with you on this. I bought Trout for 159k more than a month ago abd got him close to P5. It sucks that in about a month I have to retire him when playing online. Not a fan of it at all.
Now I’m hesitant to bring in set 1 cards pitchers vs cpu and build up their attributes cause I know in about a month they’ll be useless vs playing people online. Again not a fan of this at all
