Question for PS5 owners:

Digital or Disk?
Is the $100 price increase for the disk drive version worth it; if all the games I play are digital?
I mean that would make sense to pay for the digital version as it's cheaper.
But a few of my friends that went digital regret not going disk.
What would entice a consumer to pay more for something that they may not use?

It was disk for me but i collect physical copys of movies and i have a big collection so I needed to go with the disk version.

I went with the disk version, mostly for the 4K Blu ray player and backwards compatibility. I have a lot or physical PS4 games. That being said, I rarely use the disk drive and primarily stick with digital games.
The $100 difference in the grand scheme of things isn't much when games are $70 each, so if you like flexibility and appreciate having the option to go physical if you get a really good deal on a game, then go with that.

If you don't use disk then obviously the digital is the way to go. I originally bought the disk, sold it last year and then bought the digital back in March. But I also have a series X which has a disk in case I ever watch 4k Blu ray movies on disk. Which I still never have.

Thanks guys. Yeah. I got rid of my DVD collection when I went to a Firestick. I'm figuring that difference in cost could be a 'free' year of PS+.

I havent bought a disc since 2016 so it was kind of an easy choice to get digital.

I have the disk version. It is required if you have any games on disc that are available for a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Even then the Disc still needs to be in the drive when you play.
My copy of No Man's Sky has pretty much lived in the drive since day one since that is really the only physical disc I use. I have been digital only for quite a while.

I bought the one with the disc drive and I regret that. I thought I wanted it to have a hard copy of everything, but I haven't used it one time because every company pushes digital now, so that's pretty much all I have. I'm buying another PS5 soon for my other house and it will be digital.

I would only recommend disc if you are getting it on sale or if you have a gift card/gift certificate and aren't able to use it on the digital copy.

I went digital. I hadn’t bought a disc in years so all my games were digital anyways and I’m the paranoid guy who never used his console for movies anyways and already had a 4K BluRay anyways.
EDIT: You ask what would entice you. The only thing I assume would really entice someone would be if they had a huge library of games they would use on the console. I still have my original PS3 and remember playing tons of PS2 games on it in the beginning. I still have a couple PS2 games and refuse to part with the console until it no longer works due to the backward compatibility. Plus, others are nothing like me and using it for movies.

Funny enough I also still have the backwards compatible PS3 but it's unplayable... I forget what happened but something with the disc drive and at the time buying digital wasn't a thing for me until sometime during my PS4 run... I think I ended up getting a PS3 Slim but when I went to trade it in to get my PS4 I traded in both of my PS3 controllers (lol) so I can't even use my PS3 to stream which is what I intend on doing with my PS4 once I figure out a new setup.

I barely use it because I’m afraid it’ll die but it’s right next to my BluRay and above my PS5. Only thing I use it for is GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption but as I said very rarely. Once in a blue moon I’ll simulate some seasons of MVP05. Other than that I’m afraid to turn it on because of what you said. I got so few discs for PS4 I can’t even remember them but the only 3 remaining are at my girlfriends house being used by my girlfriends son.

If you have games on disc, then you won't be able to play them on a digital console. That's the only downside.
Edit: Have you considered an XBox X? I like it better than the PS 5.
