I’ve seen all the backlash about all the 99’s and on the surface I get. It’s scary to think that the digital rewards I earn won’t be valuable anymore in a couple of months. But after careful consideration I’ve come to the conclusion it’s always been this way. Look, in previous years we had 91 overall headliners and 92 overall ranked seasons rewards early on which we could grind for and collect. Once we had those cards we could use them whenever we chose for the rest of the year. Did any of us actually use the 91 headliners and 92 ranked rewards all season though? Not likely and if we did we did it’s because we just had that one goon in our lineup that just works for us. So what is the difference if the early cards are 92’s or 99’s? We are still earning cards we won’t use in two months and if we find a goon we have the wildcard slot to put him in. What do you guys think? Am I missing something ?why should I be outraged about using a 99 for two months instead of a 92 for two months?
And to add one to your point we can use set 1 cards in season 1 and season 2
I’m sure by the time season 3 comes around we won’t want to use set 1 cards anyway
The way its set up these Set 1 cards will be popping up as Wild Cards... there are too many cards that already released that people will covet especially if they are already pitching good to great with them and/or raking with them at the plate.

That's all fine since there is only 1 wildcard player and I feel most people will choose a babe/chipper/pedro one sure there may be a few others that I can't think of but as long as they properly limit it to 1 wildcard like they said on stream I think it really makes the decision interesting and will force at least some variety down the road.

What does it matter?!!?!
When every player is a 99 with zero weaknesses and juiced ratings...does it really matter what player "skin" they are in?
Not really. And that's where the mode is heading.

This just comes down to offline vs online. If you play offline this year is amazing. Better cards to destroy the CPU with. If you play online you can very easily see the Pay2Win structure. And eventually Pay2KeepUp in the newer seasons.
If I make WS (or play a handful of games and just get it given to me lmao) I have a 99 overall card that is equal to several 99 overall cards in the shop. You can literally BUY an ENTIRE team of ranked season reward caliber players during the FIRST ranked season….cringe.
Count the 99s you can earn and Count the 99s you can buy. It’s pretty simple math. There is almost more choice packs with MULTIPLE 99s than actual avenues to the earnable 99s. And within a week there will be.
Earnable 99s: 11 choosable, 7 available.
2 RS includes WS
2 BR includes 12-0
3 Program + Luck Factor99s available only in packs or Market: 20
Ohtani, Jenkins, Tucker, Diaz, G. Henderson, Carroll, Volpe, Murakami, Robinson, Sasaki, Willis, Bagwell, Walker, Nen, Cabrera, Darvish, Marte, Edmonds, Machado, Trout….no clue what people are talking about but did you know new packs dropping tomorrow!!! -
I don’t understand why restricting our inventory = lineup diversity. I feel like it will be even worse.
When Set 3 rolls around, everyone is going to have a very similar lineup using Set 2 & 3, where if you kept Set 1 eligible, lineups would vary more. More 99s eligible, more lineup diversity.
Instead they are just forcing us to change our rosters instead of letting nature take its course. If everyone is saying we’ll want to quit using Set 1 players in July anyway, then why force us to?

Having the 99's now gives us (well me anyway) nothing to look forward to. Yes I get to grind later in the year for different 99's, but those cards are not going to be much better, and if they are then OVR means nothing. The anticipation of getting better cards as the year goes on is gone.

Offline is just as stale and boring as online and people are still going to BUY an ENTIRE team of ranked season players. It has nothing to do with offline and online. It is the bs of having 95+ cards day 1, and as you point out making them all pay-to-win.

Isn't that what online players have been asking for for years? Only reflexes to matter? We are almost there.

They say that wanting input to matter more/less RNG. Not for every card to play the same.

They say they want input to be the only thing that matters (some do). The only way to do that is to have all the cards the same. Perhaps you do not see that but without making all the cards the same there is no way to make input all that matters.

I’ve heard that thought before but I think that’s a very small percentage of players.
-
Well either way, we are moving toward all the cards, from day one, being nearly identical for the entire season (other than perhaps swing and delivery).
-
I already nearly have an end game team. If they were not going to artificially cause me to stop using those cards I would be very close to done. There is no incentive to make my team better. Sadly, this money grab of "removing the carrot" (incentive) may just work out for SDS. SDS did this to increase profits, which is fine in and of itself, but some of us dislike this model very much. I have no incentive to finish the programs that are available. Why would I want cards any less than a 97 at this point? And we are only two weeks into the season.
-
No it is definitely more fun having lower rated cards early in the game and working up to a 99. People think when the seasons change and you can't use set 1 anymore it will be different, but that just wont be the case because set 1 and 2 will overlap.
I see what you are saying with early headliners cycling out, but between attributes, parallels, and what would've been captain upgrades this year it wouldnt have been an issue at all. Plus, I used guys like Ketel and Lofton for at least half the year last year.
It just kind of sucks now that live series cards, live series collection rewards, and low 90s in general are already useless. Getting Live Series trout or Degrom at this point in past years would be one of your best cards until the all star series drops, no they are nothing more than a piece of a collection.
I especially don't see where they go with topps now, ASG, finest, etc. No room to grow cards already
-
I'm not going to take sides here as I see it from both perspectives but something that people don't consider is this. Under the old model pitching was dominant until the hitters caught up, which was after the allstar break usually(See Kershaw, Kluber, Edward Cabrera, Bobby Miller/Randy for example). A 92 pitcher will almost always be more useful than a 92 hitter depending on pitch mix, outlier etc. The hitters are on an even playing field now is all I have to say

no it is not, you are wrong - it is a trash way of playing - unless you live in your mums basement - no one wants to grind to infinity each year over year - mind numbing waste of real life
-
I haven't paid for a single player card this year beyond pre order stuff. I have had some pack luck but other wise I was able to complete the RS program with a winning record so any idea that it's pay 2 win is a joke.
This game need a shot in the arm from what's been done the past 3 to 4 years and so far I think it's a good start. Until we get to season 3 it's really hard to judge on the long game but so far it's been good in my eyes.
One thing to consider is the meta data that SDS has on player base. I would not be surprised if the way the seasons are set is this is when SDS sees players wave of people coming back to the game, maybe the idea between 99s is to keep players engaged longer when they return because the cards are better.
-
I get your point but whats better than a 99 card? It's not like in mid-June a 99 card is going to be released that is far superior than the 99 I already have at that position. At that point it will just be a matter of what name would I rather see in the lineup and that's not enough to keep me wanting to come back.

You're right! As the explained, this way we're earning the best version of each card right away. For someone who won't play past July, they can use a 99 Trout, 99 Ohtani, 99 Lindor etc.

That's not what it is. If you think that, just wait until set 1 is no longer usable. You will have to restart the grind to get new cards. There is still an infinity grind, it is just significantly less rewarding because you just grind to go from 1 99 overall to a new one
