Controller help

I believe my controller is broken. It's relatively new, purchased within the last year, I think. Anyway, the PCI will jump around when I'm playing. Does this happen to anyone else? It's like there is something wrong with the left stick of my controller but wanted to see if anyone else was having similar issues before I went and bought a new one.
The PCI will jump around (usually as if I'm pushing up on the stick). Also have issues in the field with my fielder camped under a ball and then he'll suddenly start running back to the outfield fence, and yesterday I was having issues within the in-game menus where the choice would keep moving. It doesn't do it in the main menus though.
Anyone?
It does feel like the stick is "loose" on both sides. I can push them down or pull them up into different positions. Hard to explain. But you know you can push the sticks down for a certain maneuver. I have two different levels on the stick where it can be down and up, and I can almost hear a click when I move them to each spot.

So when I position my pci up and in, my pci will jump around. I use two controllers and it does it with both. If I jam the stick all the way to the edge it stops. Maybe the stick is just interpreting imperceptible movements of my thumb. Or maybe both controllers are broken. I don’t know. Does your pci jump when you aren’t pushing the stick?

It happened to me with a brand new third party manufacturer controller right out of the box. The issue is with the left or right analog stick and it’s called “drifting”, and it’s common with defective controllers.
Anyway, I just returned mine. But most controllers have a one year warranty, so you should be able to get a new one.

Yes, it jumps without moving the stick.

Thanks. How do you replace it? Not through the store I bought, I assume. And I wouldn't know if I still have the receipt.

If it’s an official one made by Sony just go online to their website and file a warranty claim. Technically, they say they may fix it and send it back, but my experience has always been that they just send you a new one.

Nice. I will try that. Thanks @Politergeist. Do they need some kind of receipt? Mine is still in very good condition (aside from left stick moving on its own).
I checked my son's controller and his does the same thing as far as being able to lift up and push down the stick. Looks like there's a little "play" in the tightness of the stick on whatever it moves (i'm not technically savvy to know how the mechanism works). His cursors don't move without it being touched like mine does. But like I said, it only happens when I'm in a game. Not in the main menus. Weird.

FYI, for others out there. It does say you need a valid proof of purchase.
Any other help is appreciated. Does anyone else's PCI move all over the place even when you're not touching the stick?

You can have those replaced and it is not hard to replace. You can find a place that does that. I have taken apart remotes before to fix other issues. You can find Utube videos on how to do it yourself. You just have to buy the part.

@dbarmonstar where do you find the parts? Any idea what might be causing it?

They get lose over time and wear and tear depending how much you play other than that not sure the cause. You can google the parts and find them on Amazon and other sites. Hopefully it is just he thumb sticks.

Been experiencing this problem but worse. PCI movement like a small jolt up, down, left, or right but it goes steady back in the middle. The real issues come on defense when I move towards a ball and my player goes into a full dive. Idk how many controls there are to jump/dive but having that on the movement stick is ridiculous. I never set the L stick to do those actions so it just happens and they get up which sometimes resulted in another dive.

For what it's worth, I tried out my controller on Call of Duty and everything was going fine for a while and then I started noticing it there too. Hoping I can find a way to get my controller fixed. I've looked up the videos for replacing sticks, might try that.
Also, I tried a different controller and noticed when I swing, I have a tendency to push the entire stick in (like time where you need to use L3) when I swing. I tend to push it in while moving the stick for the PCI. Anyone else do this? Just pushing too hard? I wonder if that's what caused my issue with the left stick going bad.
