Congrats to the Phillies. That is a really long contract.
While a part of me would have liked him as a Cardinal I am not sure I would have wanted them to commit to that many years.
How did you feel when Albert went to the Angels for 10 years? I have to imagine "relieved". 88.8 WAR in 12 years with STL, 12.8 with LAA.
I wasn't thrilled that he left but even then I knew that the length was an issue. I have seen enough players fall off the cliff performance wise to believe 10 years plus is a enormous gamble. I fully understand why the players go for that length though.
At that time there were already injury concerns with Albert also. The Cardinals weren't going to give him that type of contract.

Josh Bell to the 'Land

Andrew Heaney to the Rangers, it's a 2 years contract worth 25 million
Josh Bell to the Guardins on a 2 year contract worth 33 million

Cubs just flushed 17 million down the toilet by signing Cody Bellinger to a 1 year deal. Looks like they are already throwing in the towel for 23.

Will see if they can fix him

Nobody can. He is broken. Another Joe Charboneau.

Its weird, because they had a top 4 payroll in 2022, but now it is showing down over 100,000,000?! Who all fell off that cost that much?

I would have rather traded for Murphy and used free agent money on someone else but Contreras will help. My guess is A's asking price included players the Cardinals didn't want to part with (Jordan Walker, Masyn Winn)
Just afraid that they will use the contract as an excuse why they can't make other big moves this offseason.
I know many fans were hoping to resign Qunitana but that ship has sailed.

I read that the A's were asking for Gorman, Winn and another prospect. If I'm the Cardinals that's a definite pass

Yeah, I think Winn is untouchable for now. Gorman is one of the few lefty bats they have.
It's a done deal.
Catcher Willson Contreras and the St. Louis Cardinals are in agreement on a five-year, $87.5 million contract, a source familiar with the deal tells ESPN.
Definitely getting more offense than defense with this move.

Yea, not sure how I feel about this. I'm wondering how it's going to affect the pitching staff.

I don't even know if he's going to be their primary catcher, the Jays still have a surplus that the Cardinals may still look at (Jansen for instance)
