So who you got for the World Series?
-
I had to put something on the Astros at +110. They had to lose game 1 to become the underdog now, but that will help me out if they win. I wasnt gonna bet on them -185 before the series. But since I believe all their remaining starters are better than JV, I have confidence.

Pretty easy for me. Astros are cheaters but MLB says we aren't allowed to talk about it because it tarnishes the sport. I don't get why the entire team didn't get lifetime bans. I think it is likely that they will win their first championship but I'll be rooting for the Phillies.
well said
LOL The whole league is guilty, we got punished. It's alright though. I get that the narrative is more fun that way.
We're winning this thing and then everyone that wants to talk about cheating, can watch the 2022 WS Highlights over and over and over and over and over and over...
Is that kind of like every player takes PEDs so it doesn’t matter when there is proof someone actually was using them?

The entire team didn't get lifetime bans because it was a league wide problem. The Astros were just the worst offenders. Alex Cora ran a similar scheme in Boston the very next year and all the hate is still on Houston. The only hitters on Houston's current roster that still have any affiliation with the sign stealing are Bregman, Gurriel, and Altuve. That said I still want the phillies to win, but I don't have any hatred towards the astros pitchers, Kyle Tucker, Pena, McCormick, Dusty, Etc. For 2017. The worst offenders (Springer, Correa, Marwin Gonzalez) are on different teams now anyway
You make a good point; however, in a study the biggest offender was Bregman, and Altuve was actually against using it. I also believe there is enough evidence to suggest that it went on, allegedly, through 2019. I don’t have a team in the fight, as they say, in this year’s WS. I just want it to be a good one.
I remember watching Something about this, where altuve would look to the dugout after the bangs just mad

Ended by the beginning of 2018 due to ineffectiveness. Which was the main reason AJ Hinch was so against it. Because he was an analytics guy, and the numbers clearly showed Astros hitters had Much more success in away games in 2017 over home games, they couldn't use their decifer system in away games. And with Cora and especially Beltran gone at that point he was able to do away with it. Plenty of documentaries and youtube videos about the whole thing.
And turns out Hinch was completely right. Astros went on to have their best season in franchise history in 2018 after this stopped, and even better in 2019.
That fing Beltran almost single handily killed the Astros franchise bringing down that [censored] from NY

I have Astros in 6. I kinda reckoned the Phillies would be able to win two games, most likely at home.
Stealing game one kinda messes that up a bit, but I still think Houston’s pitching depth, and superior defense will win out.
I’m kinda tired of the whole “cheaters” thing. At this point, you just have to beat the team on the field by playing the game better.
That said, I’m very curious about why Framber changes fielding gloves. After he did it vs Seattle, the reason mentioned was different webs and he thought he was tipping.
Tonight he did it again, started with the tan glove, then went to the black.
If he thought he was tipping before, why did he go back to the tan glove?
-
I’m not saying he’s cheating but he also touches his hair after every pitch and the umps never checked him for a foreign substance. He pitched great though.

I am sure you know more about it than me. So I will take your word for it. You seem well informed and don’t speak like some of the kids on here that just say meaningless rants.
What are you referring to in that last part with Beltran? -

What are you referring to in that last part with Beltran?
Beltran was essentially the mastermind behind it all. When he came to the Astros from the Yankees he said the Astros were "behind the times" when it comes to sign stealing. And his and Cora's Veteran presence pretty much forced the Astros young players hands on how they were gonna do things. That is why both were immediately offered head Manager jobs. AJ Hinch didnt approve, but cmon. He was a relatively young Manager and didnt have near the influence on the locker room as Beltran did.

I’ll preface this by saying I’m a HUGE Phillies fan. Just curious who you boys think will win it all? I kinda think the astros are soft and the Phillies at home are too hard to beat. I’m biased obviously so I want some of the forums input!

I didn’t get a chance to check out the link, but you are definitely knowledgeable about this. I’m curious though. You’re not suggesting the Yankees had anything to do with this aside from Beltran coming from there, are you?

Beltran learned what he learned through his previous teams before the Astros. He compared the lack of Astros ability to "keep with the time" to where he just came from, the Yankees. Yankees and Red Sox were also busted that same year for electronic sign stealing. That is why the Astros getting busted was more egregious because after the Sox and Yanks got fined the Comish said anyone else caught would have the hammer brought down on them.

I got what you’re saying. Your talking about the dugout phone thing. I do remember that. They were fined $100,000. I know I read the Red Sox were alleged to have done it after the letter from Manfred was put out. Sorry I kept asking questions, you’re just one of the few people that are both knowledgeable and fair on the topic. I have to finish a bunch of paperwork, so I won’t be bothering you. Thanks for the input though; it’s always good to hear from another educated baseball fan.

Here's a link to show who benefited most from it and when it started and ended
https://signstealingscandal.com/players/. Lucas Giolito said last week in an interview that players in the league don't care about it anymore. They all know that the Astros weren't the only one electronically stealing signs and every team in the 2017 postseason cheated to get there. Most players at least acted shocked so not to draw attention to themselves. -
