I am thrown out 90% of the time against the CPU, using guys with 90+ speed and steal against pitchers with slow windups and catchers with 60 arms. Surely I'm not doing this right....

Always take the first pitch. Especially if you pinch run with a 90+ speed guy. The CPU knows it!
Wait for a pitch out on the 1st or 2nd pitch. Sometimes they pitch out after the 3rd pitch!
Check a pitchers arsenal. If their fastest pitch is let's say, 91-93, you should be good to go.
Be patient. You don't have to steal on the 1st pitch.
If the pitcher has a Sinker, be careful as that pitch gets to the plate fast!

Watch some YouTube videos. There is a trick that worked really well last year. Still works for me.

Someone posted earlier this year the trick is to press and hold R2, after pitcher looks over, press L1 and then L2, release R2. Works a high % of time.

Forgot this part. Unfortunately I can't see the baserunner if on 1st base on ps5. Players card hides the runner.

Used to be that the cpu would never throw over or pitchout on a 2-0 count.

That’s because it’s stupid. The pitcher almost always knows just when to pick off or pitch out. Half the time you tell your guy to steal and he just runs in place and doesn’t take off until the catcher receives the pitch. That’s why I only steal when there’s a mission.

Also note that if you steal or even attempt to steal a base to remember what the count was because they will pick off attempt/pitchout on that same pitch number the next time you have a runner over 70 speed on first.
