I haven’t really followed him closely, but is there an actual chance he will hit 700?

He has to hit 8 HR's more
Doable but probably not

Small but he's made it a lot bigger in the last week. Last week he had 687, now he has 692 and is destroying the ball. Personally I would like to see him pass Arod most of all. He needs 4 more to tie him.
How on earth people can argue this man isn't one of the 5 best hitters in baseball history blows my mind. Don't come at me with WAR or any statistic that requires a Masters in mathematics and a calculator. The name of the game in baseball is scoring runs and getting on base. He now has more total bases than anyone is history other than Hank Aaron, he has more RBIs than anyone other than Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron and he's 8 home runs away from 700!!!!!!! Only 3 men have gone there and one doesn't count. And before anyone jumps on me about Bonds, I'm all for him getting into the HOF and I still think he's one of the best hitters ever, but he had assistance.
Anywho....Pujols rules forever and I'm loving every minute of this time warp he's having in August.
Side note: it's great to see the Cards turning it on right now. Goldy for President.

He's has hit 5 HRs in his last 5 games so he is definitely hot (4 for 4 last night) but I think most people still consider it a long shot.
He still mainly plays against lefty pitching.

Problem is he only has 27 at bats this month. Not nearly enough to be considered qualified by MLB standards
When have MLB standards mattered to SDS? (And I don't mean that negatively toward you as you are a solid poster)

Good point but there is little doubt they already have a 99 card already planned for him.
I don't expect to see it before the end of the season though. It will be a 99 MVP, milestone or Signature Series or, in the longshot he makes 700 HR, it will be a 700 HR milestone card

I still consider Aaron the all time HR Champ, and Maris the single season record holder. Bonds would probably be in the HOF if he didn’t cheat. He was good before then, I hope they don’t let him in.
I can tell you have a strong bias, but I can easily say that he is not one of the top 5 hitters of all-time. I hope I didn’t blow your mind. I like your passion though. You’re good people. -

Does Maris keep his home run record or does Judge break it this year?I would have said 50% but he has fallen off in the last week or 2.but still is a player that can hit 6(or more) in a week and get back on pace.my current estimation is 55/56.

Aaron Judge is a monster, but he does get hurt too. Not as much as Stanton does though. I am a fan of Judge, and the Yankees as a team. Unfortunately, they decided to stop hitting. I don’t think Judge will hit 62 though. Even today that’s a lot of home runs. It is really hard to compare players from different eras too. There is an interesting video about how MLB owns the factory that makes the baseballs. It makes sense, look at all the teams that broke the team HR record. They wanted more offense to make the game more exciting for people who weren’t watching or going to games.

With Molina out of the game next year due to retirement Simmons would be a nice replacement

Now I'm strictly saying hitter. Not total player. I don't think Albert is a top 5 player though he's most definitely an inner circle HOFer
The man has 692 Home Runs (5th all time and 2 don't count) 2,187 RBIs (3rd all time), 6,143 Total bases (2nd), 3,354 hits (10th), 681 Doubles (5th)
I get it these are counting stats used by cavemen.
So, what should we go by OPS? Sure he's 54th. But in the top 10 are such legendary names as Turkey Stearnes, Oscar Charleston and Mule Suttles with a career 1,089 hits. Sorry, I can't take that list seriously. Plus the difference between 54th and the difference between 54th and 10th on that list is .09. And for the record obviously all of these players are great whether we've heard of them of not. But top 5. No.
I'm not saying sabremetrics don't have their place. Of course they have massive value. But Albert, like many, showed value in an old fashion way. They see the ball, they crush the ball, they are responsible for insane amounts of runs and they help their team win loads of ballgames.

You know Aaron admitted to using greenies, which makes him just a much a cheater (according to your rules) as Bonds, right?

Makes sense to take out OPS because it doesn't adjust for length of career. However, Adjusted Batting Runs is a great way to factor in total career, but even that (https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/abRuns_career.shtml) only puts him at 16. Probably the most reliable top 10 of Ruth, Bonds, Williams, Cobb, Gehrig, Musial, Aaron, Hornsby, Mantle and Mays. It puts Pujols right between Frank Thomas and Manny Ramirez, which feels about right. Probably a top 10 all-time right handed hitter.
He hasn't had a truly good season since 2011, which was his 11th season. He spent the last 11 seasons as a below average regular player.
Regardless of how anyone ranks him, he was a tremendous player to watch and as a Dodgers fan easily my least favorite player to have the team face in the 2001-2010 decade.
