I have played the show for the last 4 years, 18 was a debacle but this year isn’t far off. When playing I’m left with this feeling that what is input to the game just doesn’t make sense to me. This isn’t a winning vs losing thing it’s an overall satisfaction thing. I win the majority of my games but the experience does not feel authentic or gratifying.

Fielding- Extreme catch was supposed to replace funky shoelace catches by subpar fielders and put it in the users hands to have to execute properly however extreme catch almost never comes up and scrub fielders still make highlight reel plays without any user input. Bad fielding outfielders also track down far to many balls that are headed to the gap or over their heads. Players booting routine grounders is confounding, errors should predominantly come from a user input error NOT a random fielder cpu error. If you don’t use button accuracy then you have no argument on throwing errors by cpu.
Hitting- It just doesn’t seem to add up half the time with input vs results. Timing windows seem off where I feel like I’m way early or way late, 19 I felt like the timing windows made sense this year they do not. It’s creating a whoever hits more solo homeruns wins much like 18.
Pitching- Almost as frustrating as fielding. Pitches that are perfect on input do not go where they were put and that makes no sense. Balls that are 50% in the zone or more have to be called strikes otherwise you’re forced to through in the meat of the zone to get strikes rather than being rewarded for dotting a pitch perfectly on the edge.

I realize that everyone’s experience is different and I try not to create an opinion based off wins and losses because that should have nothing to do with analyzing its playability. Bottom line for me is the game doesn’t feel right, it just seems off on all phases, like it’s still in its beta form and not final form ready for shelves. The whole game feels incomplete.

Spot on. Fly balls are always a nail biter, good timing and centered pci will make for opposite field pop ups. Perfect perfect means scorching grounders to ss. I dont get it. 19 was good and this does feel like 18 where I am just ready to put it down and wait for 21.

I agree. I have seen the extreme catch thing once for a split second. I played it on a hop to be safe. It would have been dumb to try and lay out.

The pitching problems you described are huge. The good pitcher’s pitches not getting called strikes creates a situation that favours the hitter more often than not.

We need to remember that the square shown in the game to represent the strike zone is not there in real life. As we have all seen from watching games on tv, the strike zone is generally bigger than that, depending on the particular umpire.

The BB/9 and control and the players attributes are the reason why the ball doesn't go where you want it to go when pitching. You shouldn't get the same result pitching with Nolan Ryan and an accurate pitcher. Why have per 9's then? Other stuff I agree with you on for the most part.

This, I feel, is an apologist’s point of view.

Yes, the attributes matter, but it should be within the normal realm of possibilities for players of this game to throw strikes with an average mlb pitcher. In a lot of cases, that’s just not happening.

Then what I would like to see would be a harder difficulty setting for lesser pitchers to hit perfect or good and let that be the determining factor in where a pitch goes. Then the attributes matter in making is easier or harder but the user has ultimate control of the end result.

It’s horrible isn’t it? 😔 I’m really sad, because as you say, last year was a good game in terms of content and gameplay. I’m not enjoying this years game at all so far.

I think 2021 is gonna be on the Xbox one X and Switch ... I hope they nail that one because on the switch it would be hella cool to have a version on the go... Vita was solid but it didn't have all the celebrations on big wins and no replay's ....
