It’s far from perfect, but it is objectively the best. The lack of any real competition for more than a decade certainly helps, though. When other studios get a chance, it’s going to take some time for them to even come close.
I don't think it would take EA that long.
Look at how they made F1 '22, which was already a great game, and this is the 2nd year they made it.EA only makes F1 cause they purchased code masters. Codemaster has been making the F1 games for years now just EA publishes them. EA is only in yhe F1 game because the purchased their way in it wouldn't be the same for MLB they would have to start from the ground up as their is no developer to buy who already has a game built
While all you said is true, I notice the EA difference or enhancement already. Been buying since F1 '16. There is an EA difference.
EA can expand the MVP engine, which I'm sure is parked somewhere -

I’m not particularly excited for an EA game. Madden is not what it once was.

This game has steadily declined. 16/17 were great. This years game is on par with 18, hot trash that plays as intended.

I'm not excited for an EA game, I'm excited to see if competition will push SDS to actually work on issues that we all have known about for many years.
As far as topic goes, this is what Tyler says every year. And since he plays franchise mode and franchise mode has been largely untouched every year for a decade, it's easy to see why he still thinks it is the best.

Game Day 98 was my jam. You couldn't do careers or play online but man could you get those minecraft looking players to hit hard and sack the QB. Think one game I had 8 sacks from one guy. Nothing better then seeing minecraft looking Deion high step into the endzone for a TD.
For baseball games I liked Ken Griffey's baseball and high heat.

I don't think I played Game day but I do remember it. Sounds like I missed out.
Me and a couple friends dusted off the PS2 and played Madden and High heat BB. HH is still the most customizable BB game ever even to this day. It had Barry Bonds plus you can charge the mound! Good times!
-
I played High Heat on PC. Very underrated game. Hardball before that. I still have its theme song stuck in my head.
-
Yeah, HH for PC was best baseball game in the PSX era, and not even close. HH was on ps2, and was good but was still no where as great as PC version, which is how MVP was able to be best of that Gen. Although I still prefer ASB.
And yes PS2 still holds up, especially for NCAA Football. Ps2>Ps3 for that game.
-
Man, I thought this was a thread for Earl Weaver Baseball...
-
RBI baseball on the NES. That’s the best ball game ever
-
Ken Griffey Baseball on the N64 is still the benchmark against which all sports games are measured.
8 team fantasy draft made for great couch play tournaments amongst friends.

Griffey Baseball was great. I’ll put Mike Piazza Strike Zone down as the worst sports, no, video game I’ve ever played.

Did you play HH on PC before it was on PS2? There was just so much more that you can do on PC than you could on PS2 back then. Along with the great game play, the one thing the PS2 version got right.

Maybe my age is showing here but Front Page Sports Baseball Pro 98 was my game of choice back in the day. Sierra Online used to make some of the best games...oh the memories!
-
Speaking of showing one's age, what was the name of the 1980s arcade game you played against the computer that had a track ball on it? It always said "out of here, change sides!"

Never played that one. As far as age goes. I grew up on Atari and NES.
But yes I miss those days, basically from NES to PS2. Back then we had at least a half dozen baseball games to choose from, each were good in thier own way and it really came down to preference.
-
Ah yeah no. Lol

I didn't on PC but I assume it was the same game. The game play is still fun as we fired up the ps2 a few weeks back.
