Stealing sucks

Jimmy Rollins should never get caught stealing against LS Mitch Garver behind the dish. Change my mind.
FYI, there was no side stepping, pitch was a slider, and gets caught with ease.

Rickey Henderson was thrown out 335 times.

Nope. But doesn't Mitch throw from his knees?

That’s not the only thing he does from his knees. But no, not in the MLBTS he doesn’t.

This is the correct answer and it really shouldn’t have to be more complicated than that. Stealing bags is not something that is successful 100% of the time…no matter who is running or who is behind the dish. If that were the case, baseball would be a very, very different game.

Stealing and base running is definitely off this year ....seems like they're running on ice sometimes - Lofton has been thrown out way too much.....

Yes. That may be so, but let’s also be realistic too. Rollins stealing rating vs garver’s arm in the game does not match up well. Especially for a slow delivery to the plate. So, you have no problem with LS Nelson Cruz stealing on Gary Carter?

It definitely is. The main problem is the guys don’t break for the bag until the pitcher releases the ball. Anybody with baseball sense knows you break when the pitcher lifts his leg.

Isn't there a way to time it yourself? By releasing the R2 as his leg lifts.

There was last year. I’ve tried to do it a few times this year but they don’t react like last year.

It was never like this before , hopefully they will correct it and the ball that looks as though its behind the catcher which is annoying

I said it is not 100% successful no matter who is running or who is behind the dish. I never once said that anyone can steal on anyone. My point was the exact opposite of that. While there are definitely better and worse defensive catchers, it is a premium defensive position and even the worst defenders have to be able to control the running game just a bit. This year the top 15 teams in the league are stealing between .81 and .52 bags per game, where the bottom 15 teams are stealing between .19 and .52 bags per game.
In my opinion stealing is something that is just not done near as much as most people who play the show seem to think. I have no clue how often you run, but I know my opponents run way more often than they should. This year the Rangers and Rays are leading the league in attempted steals and they are only running an average of once per game.
There are so many elements to all of this that we do not know. You mention the slider, slow delivery etc., but I have no clue how many times the pitcher had thrown over, if your lead was extended, how many times you had already ran in the game, how many times you had already ran with Rollins. All of those things do matter, but I do think Garver should be able to throw out Rollins even if it is the first time he has ran and there has not been a single pickoff attempt. I also think Rollins should be able to take a bag off of him, just not every time. I am not saying stealing is perfect, but in my opinion it plays much, much, much more realistic than most other aspects of this game.

I don’t think knowing how many times teams steal in real life have any relevance in this conversation. Or how many times he threw over (which was 0). It has to do with Rollin’s stealing ability is as good as Nelson Cruz in this game. SDS did not program base stealing correctly this year. The only time I’ll run is when the base runner has high speed/stealing ability against a weak arm. Typically 75 & lower.

So throwing over doesn't impact a runner getting a jump? And if you think Rollins ability to steal is the same as LS Nelson Cruz, you are playing a different game than I am playing. I know a lot of people have issues with stealing this year, but I disagree that they got it wrong this year. One of the few things they have gotten correct or very close to correct. The video game is based on the game of baseball and the modern game does not have a ton of attempted steals and the success rate is even less than that.
My simple point is that you think you should be able to run with Rollins with 100 percent success against certain catchers and I just don't think that is the way the game is designed or the real game is played. I almost went yard with Jared Weaver this morning and he has terrible power/contact attributes, but pitchers do go yard at times.

You think Rollins was thinking about a throw over? No, it’s a software system, not a human being. The AI is not that good yet.
So you agree Rollins should have a quicker break to the bag than Cruz? Because Rollins has a 99 and Cruz probably has a 0. But yet, they somehow break for the bag at the same time…When the pitcher releases the ball. Rollins in real life would have left as soon as the pitcher lifted his leg.
SDS screwed up stealing this year just like they screwed up bunting a few years ago. Anyone could lay down perfect bunts. Once I get home, I’m going to check other people’s online stats about steal %. Because I haven’t checked that part out yet.

I know it seems like I am arguing and I guess to a degree I am. I really am just trying to provide a different perspective. My experience for me when I am pitching is that throwing over does help me limit the ability of the opposing player to run. I don't know if that is built into the code that it slows the jump or it just limits/prevents the opponent from hitting the bumper to get a jump. I just know I have a way better result of throwing out runners when I pick over.
l also know that the quicker the button is pressed as the catcher to bring up the throwing interface, the better my result is at throwing people out. If someone has already been running on me and especially if they have already ran with that player, I am much more prepared to mash the button and get the interface on the screen.
In all honesty from what you have described, I would expect you to have a really good chance of taking that bag...however, I still don't think that should be a given. That is the reason I do like the way steals are working this year. I can take bags this year, but I really have to limit when I run. It is much more realistic to me and I much prefer that.

Seems like a lot of people don't know how to steal and because of this they get caught. Instead of learning they just say it sucks

You mean L2 and the bag isn’t how you steal the base? Seems pretty cut and dry to me.
